Hello, she is not grey or blue and chest not retracting but she is short of breath, grunting a bit and blue inhaler no effect. Should i go?

I would go if you are worried, better be on the safe side x

Acuppa · 22/04/2012 15:40

Moving about still, still rosy cheeks but can see her tummy going up and down more than it should and she is obviously uncomfortable.

Yes, or out of hours gp might be easier.

Pascha · 22/04/2012 15:40

Yes. She's struggling to breathe. Better now than at 3am when she's really wheezy.

LargeGlassofRed · 22/04/2012 15:41

How many breaths per minute?

Pancakeflipper · 22/04/2012 15:42

Yes, go.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 22/04/2012 15:42

I'd go straight away, but I might be overly influenced by a few sad stories on here :(

Acuppa · 22/04/2012 15:43

58 bearing in mind she grunted about five or six times and holds her breath for about a second or maybe two when she does so without the grunts it would be more like 68.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/04/2012 15:44

Yes

noddyholder · 22/04/2012 15:44

Yes

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/04/2012 15:46

Yes. If her inhaler is not helping you need to take her.

I hope she is better soon.

LargeGlassofRed · 22/04/2012 15:46

That's very fast, she needs to be seen quickly.

akaemmafrost · 22/04/2012 15:47

Anything involving breathing = go to A&E

Acuppa · 22/04/2012 15:51

Is one breath in and out or does one in and one count separately? If you see what i mean!

OP posts:
LargeGlassofRed · 22/04/2012 15:57

One counts as in and out,
I really would get her checked, I took one of my twins the other week he was pretty happy and playing but breathing fast and grunting. His sats were only 88 and he was but on oxygen for 3 days.
He 's fine now, but you have to be so careful with breathing as it can get worse quickly.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/04/2012 16:04

Whilst she isn't cynosed (blue) she sounds like is struggling.
Is getting to A&E or GP going to be difficult?

Acuppa · 22/04/2012 16:05

Thanks for all your help.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 22/04/2012 16:05

I would really get off here and go to A and E. better to be sure and no one here can see her

LargeGlassofRed · 22/04/2012 20:44

How is she now? Acuppa

pumpkinsweetie · 22/04/2012 20:52

Bethan was like this aged 5. It turned out she was having an asthma attack. They diagnosed viral induced asthma. She had started the day with a mild cold. That evening her tummy was going in & out fast. Also her throat was tugging in & out. The nurse said in children they use their throat & tummy muscles to force the air in & out. I phoned the health direct @ they asked me to count how fast she was breathing in & out in 15 seconds.she was 15 seconds. They told me to take her straight away to a & e. at first they thought it was pneumonia. They tried her on some Ventolin & they then heard a wheeze so diagnosed asthma. She was on hospital for 2 days. Hope all is ok for your daughter.
