One of my breasts feels different from the other.

For about a year now, my left breast has just felt different from the other one.

It's hard to describe but it feels a bit heavier, maybe as if I've been sleeping on it or something - although it feels like it all day not just first thing in the morning.

I had them checked recently at a routine smear appt and did mention it to the doctor, but she did a quick exam and couldn't feel anything abnormal.

Is there anything else I can do? Is it something to worry about do you think?

does it look bigger than the other ? most people have one breast a bit larger. Perhaps on of your is just more dense . I think you just need to know what's normal for you (and having different breasts might be your normal) Anything that looks different from your normal should be checked- so any changes in the skin, nipple, any bumpy bits, changes in texture or dimpling.

No there doesn't seem to be any difference in them visually. I've had a good look and can't see anything.

I'm sure I couldn't feel a difference between them before about a year ago - they don't feel different to touch, just different inside, iyswim.

It almost feels like I want to massage out a sore muscle or something on that side - I know that doesn't make sense!

Is there any history of BC in the family? Even if not I'd go back to GP and ask them to refer you to BC to be checked. They're your breasts and if they feel different you need reassurance. It's probably nothing, but still might put your mind at rest.

My grandmother (Dad's side) had BC but she was rather old so I'm not sure if that was the primary cause.

Maybe I will ask for a referral - I just wasn't sure what else they could actually do seeing as I'm not in the usual age bracket for a mammogram. Are there any other kinds of things they look for?

I think any changes have to be taken seriously. Not sure how old you are, but if you're 40+ you would be in a screening programme in lots of countries as they start 10 years earlier than us.

BC is v.treatable these days, but only if you get it early. Best to be pushy and get a proper check up I'd say.

yes, smee is right- and it would put your mind at rest. x

I'm nearly 32. But like you said, maybe best to be pushy so i think I'll go back. Thanks for the advice.
