Removal of mirena coil - TMI

I have finally decided to have it removed.
I have only had it in since September - for heavy periods which it has stopped.
BUT
-my cycle is now about 17 days! Day 1 warrants a panty liner. Days 2 - 12 is no more than a bloody discharge which is sometimes red and sometimes brown, sometimes clotty, sometimes not.
-my boobs have gone up to a DD from a small B. And they are soooo painful for at least half of my cycle; i need to wear a bra for bed and if I am naked when cleaning my teeth I have to hold them still Grin

  • I am hungry all the time and have put on almost a stone!

So I am going to have it removed ...
does the GP does this?
does it hurt? (I had it put in under GA)
will removal make everything go back to how it was?

Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks

I had mine removed at family planning clinic. Doesn't really hurt any more than a smear test, and just as quick. bit crampy afterwards, but nothing too awful. Can't comment on whether everything goes back to how it was before - I got pregnant within 3 weeks of having my first one out, and second one had to come out because of chemo for hormone related breast cancer, which has buggered up my cycle good and proper anyway!

My GP took mine out following 18 months of continuos light bleeding and pain.

The taking out was way better than the putting in, 20 seconds tops!

I'm now on cerazatte (can't take combined pill) and so far so good. No bleeding at all, slight cramps now and then but a massive improvement over mirena ( I had a mirena some years ago and had no issues so maybe I was just unlucky this time).

I had my first removed a couple of years ago. It didn't hurt but I bled for about two weeks and it was the heaviest bleed of my life although completely pain free which was strange!
I now have a new coil and my periods have almost stopped so I think I am lucky.
