DS seems to have it behind his knees - worse inthe morning after he's been curled up in a ball all night! Just wondering if it's still good old E45 or if it's been upstaged by something new since I had eczema when I was younger! (Only a few years )

aveeno is highly regarded on here. e45 is awful as it (did) contain lanolin.

kiskidee · 10/02/2006 10:51

aveeno cream or lotion. buy it over the net but you can ask you gp to prescribe it.

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2006 11:24

Aveeno is AMAZING - I have yukky eczema and it works a treat!!

Dermol, you can buy it and its an antimicrobial, if your eczema is caused by allergies its great!(a bit expensive but you can wash with it too) E45 was horrendous on me and ds couldnt believe it had lanolin in it! should have read it before we put it on!

I used Aqueous cream on my dd. I originally got it on prescription but you can buy it in most chemists it worked well for her.

fairyglo · 10/02/2006 11:41

what's wrong with lanolin? does that make it worse? We've been using E45 on ds occasionally if he seems spotty/itchy and I often use it as a face moisteriser so please let me know if we shouldn't!

When I get outbreaks of psoriasis, I use diprobase (expensive but don't need prescription). The pump action tube seems to work better and have lighter cream than the little tubes. It really works for me in stopping itching and clearing up any rash but I should say it didn't have any effect when db tried it so works for some but not all.

misdee · 10/02/2006 11:43

lanolin is only a problem if your allergic to it. dd1 used to scream when she was baby when i put e45 on her. she stopped screaming when we switched creams.

E45 make an anti itch cream witch is good, also agree with dermol and Eurax is also very good. All available over the counter. Hope your ds is better soon, my ds gets eczema on his face and it is horrid.

Hello.

My son suffered terribly with eczema from birth. We tried all sorts of lotions and potions, but to no avail.

The cream we found most effective, and still use now even though his skin is better nowadays is Hydrous ointment. We get it on prescription, but you can buy it at the chemists.

He still gets patches from time to time, but this cream's so rich and creamy and keeps his skin moisterised and soft.

All the best. I know how distressing it can be.

DS2 gets awful eczema behind his knees too. I went to the chemist and the pharmacist gave me a cream called Zenoxone which is a 1% hydrocortisone cream. If I put it on before he goes to bed it's usually 90% gone by morning.

Thanks everyone - we're off to the chemist this afternoon so will make a list of all of these to look out for!
