I am getting rather desperate! They are caused by severe raynauds (for which I can't take medication for as it had the unfortunate side effect of landing me in hospital) I have a lovely crop of them at the moment. I wear warm slippers and warm boots but my circulation is so crap that my feet remain purple always.

Have tried steroid cream but not a good idea as they occasionally ulcerated so I don't want to thin the skin? Tiger balm just makes them smell nice. Urine just makes them smell yuk.
Any other ideas please? Whoever solves this can have free weather forecasts whenever required!

Here is how I deal with chilblains :

  1. Prevention: improve circulation…Ginko or small amount of alcohol or best of all if you can get it, Amyl Nitrate ( poppers).
  2. If you get really cold: Bathe feet /hands in cold water and VERY slowly warm up over 5 minutes or more. If you get so cold you are afraid to do that then wash your hair ..the Mammalian dive reflex will make changes in your circulation before you bathe the affected areas
  3. If you have chilblains that are itchy and swollen then the best thing is treat with Americane benzocaine spray and keep them bare for a day

Remember that it is the warming up that causes the problem not the cold.

Balmosa cream!!

Not necessarily the cheapest but my boy really doesn't do the cold.

I've found that wool/silk thermals under his school uniform stop him from going blue in the playground but he doesn't overheat in them either when he is inside.

He also has pure wool socks.

Don't use fleece. While it is great at keeping you warm because it is effectively plastic you also sweat in it. Which totally negates the point in having it in the first place.

Hi - this sounds like a weird remedy but it works for me every couple of year when my chilblains come back. I have a very HOT cayenne pepper powder ion my kitchen I reserve just for this... I mix this with mashed garlic and rub it on the chilblains - try not to cover more area than you have to here because the burn of the chili..... then I cover with a plastic bag and a sock and wait. It starts to warm up, then it starts to burn....I wait as long as I can before I wash this off. Sometimes it continues to feel like its burning for day after washing it off- but those chilblains just disappear for another year or two :)

I know exactly how it feels because I've got them right now.
they were killing me until I put a load of coconut oil all over my toes it soothed the itching.
