Why the fuckity fucking hell does my head itch so much? No, I don't have head lice...

My mum has checked and checked and checked. There are no headlice there. If there were, I would be very happy and would kill the little buggers and my head would stop itching.

It's been itching for about 4 weeks. My daughter's pony had a bout of horse lice, which I treated, and my head started itching then. I put it down to just feeling 'urggh' after seeing the crawly little blighters on the pony. I treated him with horse chemicals (permethrin) next day, and since I was a bit itchy too, I dabbed a bit on my head. Itchiness did not go away.

One evening about a week ago, my best friend pulled something off my hiar thinking it was a bit of fluff, but it was an insect, and we both convinced ourselves it was a bloody great big louse (a really slow moving one!) Since then - nothing. No sightings, no nits, even though I am now driving my mother and husband mad asking them to have another look. I have 2 kids, one a daughter with waist-length hair. Surely if I have had lice for 4 weeks, I would have noticed my kids scratching too, and there would be at least some visible evidence on my head? Or have I got a massive case of psychosomatic itchiness, or perhaps I have given myself a bit of a burnt scalp by treating myself with horse chemicals? Who knows? Any suggestions? Blush

Have you checked for lice using conditioner and a nit comb? It can be hard to spot them just by looking

Try Nizoral, good for getting rid of itchy scalp. Could be fungal infection.

Have you changed your hair care products recently?

Or had hair weave done?

thisisyesterday · 20/04/2012 11:24

i would do a dose of nit lotion just to be sure.
i asked dp to check my hair for nits once and he said he could see none, but when i shampooed tons came out! urgh

it would, at least, rule one thing out..

only other thing i can think is that the horse chemicals you put on your own head have caused some kind of reaction??

That's a head louse. They are slow moving. They don't jump like fleas. Not everyone itches with them.

Treat all of your family, with hedrin and a nitty gritty comb.

Well, child no. 1 provided evidence today. Treatment done! Kill, kill, kill!

Glad it is all sorted.

I don't know why I clicked on this thread, I hate talking about nits, I'll be scratching all afternoon now Grin
