Hypermobility/EDS - which consultant in London?

Morning all,

I have had an informal/tentative diagnosis of some level of HMS from the urogynae consultants and other HCPs who have been trying to patch me up after a particularly disastrous vaginal birth in 2010 (which they believe was because I am hypermobile). I had no idea I was hypermobile, but having done a bit of reading up it makes sense - ridiculously bendy, joints 'pop' out, wrist and ankle problems, stretch marks everywhere, dizziness when standing, IBS.

Once all my repairs are done and I'm back to whatever will pass for full health, I want to get a referral to a HMS specialist. Who's the best person to see in London? I've seen Prof Graham mentioned on one of the threads in Childbirth. I can go privately.

Thanks for the help!

AFAIK Prof G is the best person (DD2 is in the process of being diagnosed) but I understand he has stupidly long waiting lists, even privately. Have you found this website yet? There's a very long thread on the forum about his clinic.

Sorry about your DD2. I'm pretty certain my mother (now dead, so can't ask her) also had HMS, so I may need to watch for DD.

Thanks for the link - will have a read. I don't think I'll be in the position to see anyone until the autumn, so if I get referred soon, a long waiting list might be OK.

Midnight is right Prof Grahame is the best, if you have already seen him, can you not get back to him again, it shouldn't be a long wait if you are already on his books? After that I would suggest anyone who has studies with him. I would avoid a particular consultant at Guys and Thomas' I will pm you with his name, but he was rude, unsupportive and inaccurate in his dx, Prof Grahama and my gp at the time picked him up on it, and he just changed his tune and pretended he had got it right all along....he is the only dr who has driven me to break down after a consultation. These days you can google hospital departments and look at specialist within areas...you would be looking for someone in a rheumatology department who specialises in connective tissue disorders or diseases.
