She has it terribly on her hands and no amount of steroid cream helps it. It's really painful and drives her to distraction when it itches. Sad

Problem is, she's a newly qualified doctor, and is constantly having to wash her hands.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what she can do?

TIA.

Is it the alcoholic hand gel stuff? This was a trigger for one of my relatives who had pompholyx, however she wasn't a medic so she could avoid it.

It could be. I've been following another thread where it was mentioned that products containing sodium lauryl sulphate could be a cause. Does anyone know where I can get a list of beauty products that don't contain SLS?

I can sympathise as I suffer from this too, and although it improves with steroid cream , it then returns as soon as my hands come into contact with any liquid soaps, washing up liquid, bubble bath etc. The only products I have found so far that don't seem to make it worse are bars of Simple soap, and E45 Emollient Wash Cream. Also I find Oilatum Cream (sold in tubes) moisturises without causing any more problems. Funnily enough it flared up particularly badly when I was visiting a relative in hospital, and used the hospital handwash a few times.

Epiderm is great and can be used as a hand wash. I gave up on steroids and have used a cream made by bearfoot botanicals that really seemed to help - expensive though. I had pompolyx for a couple of years but then it went away com

Completely.

I have pomphloyx eczema on my hands too - since having DS (18mo) the constant handwashing after nappy changes etc on top of normal washing is making them a nightmare.
I use bepanthen nappy cream (nice and thick) as well as steroid cream. I also use gloves as much as possible to wash up and have used them to change DS's nappy on occasion (but such a pain to glove up each time)

My worst ever outbreak was after we moved house and I stupidly went round our rented flat with Flash wipes and no gloves - my hands took about 3 months to heal properly. And i have never touched one of those wipes again!

No washing up ungloved (and I try to avoid it)
No touching washing powder or any kind of household cleaning product!

Keep using barrier creams even if skin seems to get better.
