still coughing and getting scared

I am scared.
I started with a cold/flu type thing in early February and it settled on my chest. In March I had a 7 day course of Amoxicillin antibx which seemed to work but 4 days after the course finished I was coughing again.Last tuesday [10th] I went back to the GP who prescribed a 10 day course of the same drug and added an extra inhaler to the Q-var and Ventolin.I really thought it was working but today I am coughing again though I am still taking the tablets.
I have to see the doc on Friday and he was making noises about a chest xray if I am still coughing.
Just over 5 years ago I had breast cancer-in Oct I was 'signed off' by the oncologist and surgeon.
I am so afraid that there is something sinister going on.
I mentioned this last time I saw doc and he said it didnt seem like that to him especially as I also had a very stuffed up nose etc and a temperature.
Has anyone else had symptoms go on and on like this?

I am just over a six week cough, following a) laryngitis-ish virus which sat on my voice box and made me croak for 3 weeks - then a few days when it was better, then b) a heavy cold which left me coughing all over again. Now I still get odd cough-y days/evenings which could be left over viral cough, or allergy related (blossom everywhere) etc etc.

The only difference is, I am not worrying about it as did not have BC five years ago - if I had had, I would probably need the GP to get me that chest x-ray for peace of mind: its the only thing that works for me when I'm scared about something health related - scientific proof Wink

It honestly does sound viral in your case, though asthma (triggered by virus - dh started it in his 40s) is also a possibility and so are allergies. I would think the least likely is something sinister. But do get go reassurance, you are entitled to peace of mind xxx

'get go'? Confused 'go get'!

And congrats on your 5 year sign-off Smile

Yes, I have been suffering with a constant sore, red throat and swollen glands since February 9th (I remember it wellHmm). It can't be glandular fever as I had that as a teenager, and antibiotics have made no difference, so it must be a long lingering virus. It is maddening but nothing can be done. DH has been suffering with a cough for that time and had a chest x-ray last week, and we know of several other people who have been suffering the same way. I think there genuinely is 'a lot of it about' and I doubt your previous cancer is related in any way, though I understand why you are worried.

thank you both
I know I should say yes to the xray anyway but I really go into panic overdrive whenever I have a medical test.I pay for my mammograms just so I dont have to wait for a result!
I think it is a post viral thing but I need to be certain I know.Maybe it will go by friday [hopeful emoticon].
