Good internet sites for reading up on MMR jab debate?

I thought I was so cool with this, hadn't given it much thought at all but now Dd's date has come through for the jab and I really feel I ought to at least read up on the debate so I'm informed. My HV is coming Monday so I'd like to talk it through with her....does anyone know of any good websites I could take a look at?

here's the nhs one nhs site .

Obviously pro mmr but if Socci's site is the one I'm thinking it is, that is anti mmr. That's nnot meant to be confrontational as I suspect it looks as dd has only just turned 1 and so am still looking into it myself so am in neither camp ! When I was looking, I couldn't find a non-bias site which I guess isn't too surprising....

Good luck !

I REALLY wasn't making a point socci so sorry if it came across like that - when I started looking into it I didn't know about a specific nhs mmr site and someone pointed it out to me. I just knwo its hard when looking at websites on the subject due to the nature of the subject ...

The Daily Mail/Sunday Mail has been running some feature this week (it's mmr obsessed), supposedly an ex-govt vaccine committee person has said that he believes the MMR to be unsafe for a small subset of children (ie he's agreeing with Wakefiled). et al. Have no idea how true it is and I can't remember his name (Peter Fraser- that' snot right but somehting like that Fletcher??????) but might be worth checking out the DM site and chekcing for the guys name and googling him.

Also worth pointing out the Cochrane report. They concluded that adequate safety trials have not been carried out on the MMR, but as worldwide measles is a killer (ie especially in the developing world) it would be a mistake to withdraw it, but further safety tests are needed.

There's also somewhere on the web (search baka or Jimjams and MMR on here and you may get a link) a powerpoint presentation that Andy Wakefiled gave last year re the current state of affairs. It talks about risk factors (gut problems basically) and also the role that interation with thimerosal may have (used to be in the baby jabs and is still in some other jabs- eg some flu jabs).

One thing which is worth looking at (and I think it is pretty balanced) is the Neals Yard Remedy book on the MMR. It only costs £2.50 and is available from their website. It goes through all the pros and cons. It was printed before Wakefield's research was discredited but it otherwise quite good. I guess I would summarise it as saying, do MMR but later but it really does leave the conclusions to the reader - that was the way I read it. My son is 3 and he has not had it yet (though he has had mumps illness). He did have the jabs at 2, 3 and 4 months.

You could also try homeopathy either as an alternative or to help your child through the jabs. If you do go ahead make sure your child is 100% well on the day(which is not NHS guidance, they say there are very few reasons not to vaccinate)

Hope this helps
