So much I could cry

Bleeding only slightly less. Improvement in that so far no flooding which I am pleased with. Still heavy though

PMT gotten worse. Massively so. I had to send dh and ds out yesterday due to my behaviour. I just couldn't stop myself.

Blast pressed send too soon.

Cramps which used to be in the hours before period and quite painful are now lasting throuout the period.

Has this happened to anyone else. I was hoping for a vast change or even no period.

I know the other alternative is a hysterectomy.

greg Sad sorry to hear that, it's a shame. My sister was thinking of having that due to her having very heavy painful periods.

gregssausageroll · 15/04/2012 11:21

Thanks Darby. I am still glad I tried though.

really feel for you. i had it done 18 months ago and it has made a huge difference to my life. it is slowly getting heavier though and at some point i will have to think what to do next. my mum works with a couple of women who had the op and it didnt work. PMT is terrible but i am putting that down to getting older.

Poor you :( You should go back to your Gynae to discuss what to do next.

I've suffered from very heavy periods/clotting/bleeding irregularly throughout the month for years, resulting in anaemia before I finally got round to seeing the GP when one period last for one whole month.

Declined the Mirena and asked about the Ablation. GP referred me for scans and Gynae. The Consultant suspected I had severe adenomyosis and the ablation would fail as Adeno. involves the uretus muscle as well as lining.

Only alternative was hysterectomy. I'm now 8 weeks post-op and feel fantastic! I did infact have severe adenomyosis and would have been a failure candidate for the Ablation....in fact my Gynae said that I would be very poorly and in a lot of pain had I proceeded with the Ablation...and that I would have been back seeing him within the year.

Definately go back and see him to discuss your next option.

Thanks both. Slinky, what type did you have and how long we're you kept in for? Are you still off work?

Gregss...I had a total vaginal hysterectomy...so taking cervix, but leaving ovaries as they are healthy, and therefore have avoided going straight into menopause.

I could have come home the following day, but I had several complications so ended up staying in for 5 days. Am still off work and have been signed off for 12 weeks, with a Phased Return for 3 weeks. This is due to the nature of my job...I'm a teaching assistant in a Reception class, so obviously on my feet most of the day, with lots of bending, getting down to a 4 year olds level, stretching etc. TBH I thought I would be going back after Easter, but both my Physio and GP recommended the 12 weeks....and I really wouldn't be ready to go back tomorrow as, although I'm not in any pain, I do feel very achey and tender if I do too much......apparently internal healing takes at least 12 weeks.

I seriously don't regret having it and already feel so much better! Far more energy, and friends have said my eyes are more sparkley?! and I have lost the "yellowness" in my eyes/face!

gregssausageroll · 15/04/2012 16:56

thanks for sharing that. I have been hoping you would come back.

My GP might send me away for another few months though. My ablation was only on 5th March but I am on my third bleed already so no change. Feel so deflated as I had such high hopes.

My GP (Gynae speciality) is brilliant and was very on-the-ball from the word go. In fact, she was the one that told me to prepare myself to be told about the hysterectomy before I'd even seen the Consultant.

Mmmm....that's not good re: your third bleed! I'd push for another referral back to Gynae.

Hi Op, I had this procedure in December. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. It does sound as though it really hasn't worked very well - if at all.
Rather than going back to the GP, are you able to contact the Gynae directly? Mine told me to call if I had any concerns and I have a follow up booked with her next week.
