DP's Mystery Rash- any ideas?

Ok, I'm not looking for a diagnosis (although ideas would be appreciated!), just some suggestions on how to make him more comfortable. He's scratching away in his sleep beside me!

Basically last week he had pinprick-like bumps on his arm, bit itchy but weren't really bothering him. They've now spread all over his body, particularly bad on his thighs and trunk. The spots are so big they're merging together and the itching is driving him crazy. He has no other symptoms, isn't aware of any allergies and hasn't changed his routine or diet. He's been to the doctor who thinks its a virus of some sort, but didn't have many ideas on itch relief!

Anyone got any miracle creams or remedies? Can't do baths unfortunately, but he's prepared to try pretty much anything else.

TIA

Calamine lotion? Anti- histamine? Maybe worth a try.

Tried calamine last night, good for about an hour but by bedtime he was scratching away again. He's on piritin which doesn't seem to be helping, and some stronger stuff the doctor gave him on Wednesday. Gah, I just want to make him feel better but I've run out of ideas! Thank you though Smile

Eurax cream is pretty good

Antihistamines! Sorted out my mystery rash a few years ago, although I also slept a lot (you might want to get the non-drowsy ones!).

He friggin loves napping, so drowsiness isn't really an issue! Luckily there's a doctor on site at his work, he's going again tomorrow as the super-antihistamines he was prescribed aren't sorting either

MY DH has inexplicable rashes, too, though without too much of the itchiness. He uses Green People's scent free creams - scents can be a trigger so avoids them. They seem to be very soothing and, of course, rehydrate the skin.

Could he have a referral to a dermatologist by this stage?
