Headlice, the gift that keeps on giving. Should I get my hair cut short?

DS1 brought home nits a few weeks ago and we all have them (well not DS2 as he has no hair yet!). We tried the wash, condition & comb out method with no luck. Then bought some Hedren lotion. DH & DS1 both have fairly short hair but mine is very abundant and quite long.

We did the Hedren treatment not quite a week ago after a previous attempt where we stupidly didn't all do it quite together, and we're due to do it again on Sunday but I just combed in one area and a little bstrd dropped out into the sink. My scalp is starting to get really itchy and I'm getting scabs.

Can anyone recommend a treatment for very thick hair before I have to get it all chopped off?

well beleive it or not, on another thread the other day I was amazed to see that ppl are using advocat ? spelling ( stuff you get from the vets for dogs fleas). on their and their childrens heads, apparently one drop on the nape of the neck kills all nits/eggs and keeps heads clear for 6 months !!!!
will see if I can find the thread, not 100% sure how I can link though but wlll try.

It does make interesting reading !!!

I've just got a NittyGritty comb - on prescription so it cost nothing. Went to see GP his morning & dd2 wasn't even with me but doctor wrote it out straight away.

OMG - I was just saying the other day, why hasn't anybody come up with something like Frontline for kids!

ohforfoxsake · 13/04/2012 14:26

Since using Vosene nit shampoo and spray we've not had nits (it's been ages, touch wood).

May just be coincidence of course. Kids are in reception, years 2, 4 and 5 so still nit prone. Am surprised we haven had them.

Meant to say thanks for the replies. Definitely an interesting thread milipede.

Not sure which to try first. I might go with the hair straighteners as I've got some of those and then try the listerine. I'll also go and get a nitty gritty comb on prescription while I still have the maternity exemption.

Not quite sure how I feel about using Frontline. I think that might be a last resort. Do you have to go to a vet to get it (we don't have any pets)?

You can buy Frontline online or from some pet shops. A vet certainly wouldn't sell you it for your children Wink Personally I wouldn't use Frontline because afaik its use hasn't been studied in humans, let alone children.
