Restricted diet and vitamin deficiency. Can anyone advise?

I am currently not able to eat dairy or soya/legumes/pulses as breastfeeding allergic baby. Meatwise I only eat fish. That doesn't leave a lot! Been dairy/soya free for about 4 months but only just gone lentil etc-free. I became anaemic with my period (recognised symptoms) over Easter weekend so started spa tone iron supplements. However, I feel so wiped out, exhausted and lethargic, and have developed ulcers/sores all over my mouth (really hurts to eat, drink and even talk).

I was reading about vit b12 deficiency. Does anyone know about this? I take daily calcium and a multivitamin/iron supplement, why is this not sufficient?

I eat as well as I can within my restricted diet, including lots of fish.

Can anyone advise me with any general information about my diet? I feel shocking! TIA

i read that it is good to take iron suppliments with orange to help aborption if you can drink it, and if drinking caffiene at all, do not take with caffeine as this slows down the absorption.

When DS was being difficult with sleeping as a baby as I was so tired I could not speak i was recommended spatone and Berocca (vit b complex with magnesium) to help increase energy levels, so could well be vit b related, so might be worth adding that to the mix. I think b12 deficiency is relatively common in new vegetarians due to lack of source from red meat. If you are not able to eat lentils etc at the moment it could well be b vit that you need, so good idea to take a suppliment and see how you get on.

I like spatone as it's gentle and easily absorbed, unlike gp prescribed iron - yuck
Has gp tested yet for deficiencies? That could be first step

Be careful not to eat too much wheat as gluten in it prevents absorption of vits/minerals (speaking from experience), gluten is also implicated in many unresolved allergies (please research it further).
Do you eat eggs, esp egg yolks? They are regarded as most complete set of aminoacids (basically protein). Otherwise liquid vits are better than tablets and please include zinc too.

Sorry to have posted and run. Thanks for all the replies. I didn't know that about wheat/gluten; I eat masses of wholemeal bread daily so will look into that. I'm beginning to feel we've reached the end of the bf-ing road actually. Ds is 10 months and I wanted to feed a bit longer but feel I'm sacrificing my own well being just a bit too much now. Especially if I need to start watching bread and pasta too; will be living on tuna jacket potatoes.

Good to know liquid vits are better; I wondered that as I am only taking cheap multivit tablets (plus calcium) so will invest in some liquid ones tomorrow. Are any particular brands best?

I can try to eat more eggs in the meantime, that's a good idea. I need to speak to the allergy boards our dietician about the formula alternatives.
