Does anyone know about sinus infections and tooth pain?

I've had a sinus infection (following a very mild cold) for a few days now. Started with thick green mucus (sorry, TMI!) coming from my left nostril only - the other one is fine. I then started to develop pain on the left side of my face around the eye, cheek and jaw area. My teeth started aching too on that side. I've still got the green mucus although the general pain seems a bit better today. However, I've got quite a bad toothache in one of my lower molars, but I thought sinus toothache only affected upper teeth. I'm now worrying that I may have a dental problem, although it seems weird that I should have this pain hot on the heels of the sinus trouble (and on the same side).

Does anyone know if a sinus infection can cause lower tooth pain too?

Thanks in advance!

I had terrible sinus pain (and floods of green gloop!) a few months ago. Eventually I had tooth ache top and bottom, all along my jaw (and even more gloop).

My GP prescribed amoxicillin and it get better really quickly (2 days or so).

If your teeth hurt and your sinuses are blocked, sore and gloopy, go and see your GP.

My teeth ache like made when I have sinus infections. And I usually get the pain on just one side. Guess you need antibiotics. Inhaling steam will relieve the pressure/pain a little. Don't put anything in it like Vic or Olbas oil, if you are that sore it will irritate things. Smile

Try antihistamine I have suffered badly including two sinus ops and the ah works to relieve at least a little

hi op, yes sinus infections can cause dental pain as all the nerves in the head and neck are very closely connected. as your sinusitis improves your teeth symptoms should as well. if teeth still sore in a week or two then maybe visit a dentist? hth

My upper wisdom teeth roots are just touching my sinuses so I get miserable, tender pain when it flares up.

Hospital won't take them out in case it causes an infection, they're too cautious with wisdom teeth IMHO. I want them out!

I suffer with this alot! I dose up on pain killers.

I also suffer from bruxism which makes it worse. I now wear a mouthguard at night.

Thanks for all of your replies. I've got a GP appt in an hour so hope to get ABs. The green gloop is more or less constant today and my cheek is aching, although at the moment the tooth pain seems to have subsided.

i had this after a tooth out and it did lead to complications, try to get a referral to ENT if possible or at least an xray

neti pots are also good for clearing gloop :( sorry for you as it was awful when i had it

mintymellons · 13/04/2012 11:41

Just to report back, GP has given me a prescription for ABs, but recommended I try a saline rinse (Neilmed) first as this might shift the mucus and the infection.

Glad you got some ABs. I've had two bouts of acute sinusitis, and suffered awful toothache from it. I remember that awful pain the the cheekbone. Another sign of sinusitis was the pain increasing when you bend over. You'll be fine in no time now you've got the ABs
