Snot & dairy

18mth old DD is always snotty. When she goes to bed you can hear the catarrh rattling at the top of her nose, which then makes her cough. Tried the vapours and pillow raise, to not much avail. Tried the suction gadget, but she howls about it.
Has anyone tried cutting out dairy in this situation. Obviously not something I would do rashly - wouldn't want to cut an important nutrient on a whim, and don't want her to grow up with and unnecessary dietary prohibition. Is this an effective option or just McKeith-style mumbo-jumbo?

If she's on full fat, I would go half/half. I was advised to make it half water half milk at night. It certainly helps my two ds's when they have a snotty cold like right now . I also used karvol drops in their bath water. This helped open the airways for the night. Hope this helps.

Could you try her on goats milk/soya for a while just to see if there is any difference?

This worked for my son. He used to have ropes of snot hanging out of his nose every day. I tried cutting out dairy at the suggestion of a naturopath the summer before he started in reception (for obvious reasons) and it went away.
He has goat stuff and soya and rice milk.

You have to take the dairy out for about six weeks then re-introduce it to see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try the goat/soya approach for a while, now I know that it has been known to work.
