Sorry in advance for the grossness of this. DD2 has just informed me that there are short thin whitish-pink thread-like things in her poo which wriggle. Couldn't look as loo aready flushed. Does anyone know- could these be some sort of worm and are there usually any other symptoms- sore tummy or anything? And if you've had it did everyone in the family get it?

put a bit of sticky tape on her behind, by the , ahem, hole. You can catch the little buggers

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 20:49

I repeat- "yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck"!!! You must all be a hardy lot! .....the intrepid hero took up dd3's birthday Winnie the Pooh torch, cringing in abject misery, and made her way to thecavern of horrors...

PMSL @ tape. Priceless MartianB.

(Adds sellotape to the shopping list.)

Aero · 07/02/2006 20:57

Just make sure you treat it quickly as they can crawl into the vagina and cause immense discomfort. This is what happened to dd and believe me, it was no fun and very distressing. I had no idea about threadworms at the time, so it was a late diagnosis!

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 20:59

I shall be outside the chemist waiting forit to open! Ohhh yes.

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:00

Did you all end up with them, Aero?

OP posts:
Mercy · 07/02/2006 21:01

Yes, def. worse for little girls - I remember dd suffering

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:03

Just working out how to say excuse me, I think my daughter has threadworms in German

Mercy · 07/02/2006 21:05

There are a few mumsnetters in Germany.

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:05

And in Switzerland, where we are!

Should organise a continental meet-up!

I had to do this in France in the summer holidays. It went something like this, 'C'est tres embarrasent mais, mes enfants avent les petits vers dans les derrier. Aves vous du medecin? Pour le bebe aussi qui est seulment dix mois.'

Mercy · 07/02/2006 21:09

ooops, sorry!

Spidermama · 07/02/2006 21:10

Probably utterly Franglais but she understood thank God!

BTW IME the itching is still their the day of the dose but should be gone the following day. That's when I do the sheet washing.

Aero · 07/02/2006 21:10

Unfortunately both me and ds2 got them. (Gross) Thankfully the tablets work very quickly, but like others have said, the hygiene regime is pretty important for a few weeks after to prevent re-infection.

acnebride · 07/02/2006 21:10

A meet-up not involving shaking hands, anyway

surely this can't be right?
"entschuldigen Sie mich, den ich denke, daß meine Tochter threadworms hat"

QE2 · 07/02/2006 21:11

dd2 has just got over threadworms - did you not see my thread on it? You know I am sure there is a joke there somehwere.....?

Anyway, ds complained his bum was itching so much I had a look - oh my god, do I regret doing that! Little blighters were waving at me from their porthole. Gross.

Trip down the docs next morning - no way i am paying seven quid for something I can get free on prescription matey.

Me, dh and all kids over 2 had Ovex - one 5ml spoon and ds4 who is 14 months had pripsen; one 5ml spoon of powder dissolved into his bedtime bottle.

All handtowels, bathtowels, bedlinen and underpants washed everyday on 60 degrees. Cut their nails, show them, yes, show them how to wash their hands properly - not like ds who puts a squirt of soap on his hand then puts hands under the tap so soap washes straight off before he has chance to rub it in.

Bath at midnight when the itching gets too much followed by a liberal application of sudocrem or vaseline. All gross-out faces to be made out of sight of the child.

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:12

At least you had a polite word for bum! At the moment I only know "arsch", courtesy of kids' friends! Have to trawl the dictionary...

I got a shudder thinking that one day I might have to deal with this too!
Why oh why do we have children????

Blandmum · 07/02/2006 21:15

can i just assure people that i am not some nutter with a parasite fetish!?

we have just had them and being a biology teacher i felt i should do some 'research'

honest !

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:16

I'll try it, acnebride! Didn't think to look in archives, QE2, too busy being grossed-out! Pleasant few days ahead, then I do believe- and there are 6 of us for it to get round!

OP posts:
QE2 · 07/02/2006 21:24

sk - ds2 was the only one of us who actually got it. Meds are a precaution really as it can spread like wildfire. Amazing he was the only one really with there being 7 of us altogether!

How do I know he was the only one? You really don't want to know the answer to that.

SauerKraut · 07/02/2006 21:30

You're right I don't! I jolly well won't be finding out who else has it here! They'll all down their meds and shut up!
