DS is MMR soon, I'm totally pro jabs, but there is that niggle bloody daily mail please can you slap me with a wet fish and tell me to woman up
I know its preventing hideous diseases. I KNOW.
I'm just having my first case of neurotic-itis and I need you to make me get over it.

OP posts:

i will when my son is old enough, currently 7mths. i have an asd and my brother has autism and neither had the mmr and still have these conditions.

Neverever · 10/04/2012 23:21

Both my dd's have had mmr, dd2 just last week, dd1 4 years ago, no problems.

faeriefruitcake · 10/04/2012 23:22

I did, also had long chats with the nurse. She explained how the original research that the media jumped all over has proven false. Too small a text group and how the only person who has kept their name on it is the Dr who published.

Had all three of mine done.

lolajane2009 · 10/04/2012 23:23

the dr was also linked to the manufacturers of the single injections if i remember correctly.

MaMattoo · 10/04/2012 23:24

Weigh the options and chances - that's what I did. Also I have had all three as a young child (at different timesSmile but..) the vaccine did not exist then, and I really suffered. So it's easy to get the disease - have faith in modern medicine and font read DM Grin

Heswall · 10/04/2012 23:24

Hasn't the Dr who was struck off alongside Wakeman just been reinstated by the GMC ?

I wouldn't advise anyone one way or the other to vaccinate but whatever you decide don't do it on the basis of the Daily Mail they contradict themselves and quote out of context, that's not to say they are always wrong.

GwendolineMaryMagdaleneLacey · 10/04/2012 23:25

I went for single jabs except I couldn't get the mumps one. Fast forward to now and dd1 is 4.3yo and needing the booster. School are being awkward about unvaccinated children therefore there wasn't much choice involved. So, I take her along for it, only to be told that because the singles weren't the full set, they consider her unvaccinated and now she's had 2 mmr jabs a month apart. Complete waste of money and effort on my part.

So, either have the mmr or none. Because until the mumps vacc is available again (if) then you're wasting your time having singles IME.

BakersDozen · 10/04/2012 23:25

dc1 aged 17 yes
dc2 aged 15 no
dc3 aged 11 no

I was like a sheep with my first. By teh time I had the others, i had read up and reserached and spoken to people and decided it was not for my others

I must add that there were no ill effects from dc1

phdlife · 10/04/2012 23:25

yes, of course. had a colleague who wrote her phd about the media creating an issue when scientifically there was none.

Catsdontcare · 10/04/2012 23:25

Had both mine done and have never really believed the mmr/autism link but ds2 has just been diagnosed with autism and although I don't for a second believe it was causd by his mmr jab I am having a huge wobble over giving him his Pre school booster. Nothing logical or rational about being a mum!

Yes, DC1 (12mo) just had his.

NenNen · 10/04/2012 23:28

My son had the MMR but I'm quite sure he had ASD before it! That piece of research is a disgrace and it saddens me that so many children have become terribly ill as a result of scaremongering. My twins will still be having it despite the many comments I have received in regards to the alleged link between ASD and MMR.

Beamur · 10/04/2012 23:28

My DD has had it, she was quite unwell for a few days afterwards. She is 5 now and well and happy. I had no qualms about having it done, but many do.
There is lots and lots of information out there about MMR, but be sure you look at how well referenced and reviewed the information is.

saintlyjimjams · 10/04/2012 23:33

Why is the piece of research a 'disgrace'? Specifically which bit?

No, mine haven't had the MMR.

Heswall · 10/04/2012 23:35

The methods were poor, nobody can argue with that however yyou feel about the outcome.

silverfrog · 10/04/2012 23:35

one of mine had the first mmr, but not booster. the other hasn't.

dc3 (due in the summer) won't have it either.

saintlyjimjams · 10/04/2012 23:35

This wasn't as well publicised as the initial striking off, but might be of interest to some, as the most recent twist in the MMR fiasco story:

BakersDozen · 10/04/2012 23:38

nenen - there are a great many children who have had all this illnesses without permanent damage too. It needs to be looked at from all perspectives.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/04/2012 23:38

Mine has had it. Again, I believe that protecting the children who have weak immune systems and therefore can't have the jabs is important. No ill effects for DD.

saintlyjimjams · 10/04/2012 23:39

Which methods were poor heswall?

lolajane2009 · 10/04/2012 23:42

wasnt it a low sample size with only kids with bowel issues?
