Help with IBS

I had a very very stressful job for three years during which period all kinds of things changed within my body eg headaches, problems with memory, chest pains and an upset stomach. I went to the doctor who did some blood test and we talked about my lifestyle. The doctor said I was suffering from stress and IBS and I needed to seriously think about getting another job. I did get another job and 5 months on most of my symptoms have gone. However, I still have problems with my bowel, although its better than it was. Previously I had an upset stomach throughout the day, now its just first thing in the morning.

Can a stressful period give you IBS from which you can never recover?

How should I best manage the situation?

I am going back to the doctor after Easter.

Have you looked in depth at your diet?

Sometimes it's the combination of stress and the comfort food which activate it? Worth keeping a detailed food/ beverage diary and list of symptoms before appointment with the doctor.

Thanks Emily what sort of things do you think I should avoid? I eat loads of carbs, fish and chicken and am a fan of chocolate I must admit. I drink quite a bit of tea as well.

I had IBS. I started taking Multibionta Multivitamins and I really think they sorted it out after a month or 2.

i was a teacher and my ibs coincided with the start of the new term and after holidays - it speaks for itself....:):) i still get it but its food related although stress can activate it too.

TRY cutting out wheat, sugar, carbs. Keep a symptom diary that included what you are eating and how you feel - you will start to see patterns
