Flash backs from accident 5 years ago

5 years ago I was in an accident where I broke my spine in 3 places, damaged spinal cord and broke both feet.
I'm having flash backs right now, it's horrible I hate it.
Things can trigger them off, like seeing something on tv.

Anyone else get flash backs from any horrible incident?

I'm looking info Buddhism and I'm trying to use that to help me. I've noticed the thoughts, flashbacks, I have to accept I've noticed them then let them pass by.

You need to speak to your GP if you are having flashbacks that relate to a traumatic event.

Most of it is a blur and I don't remember anything from 3 weeks of my life.
But I get very short memories flashing back in my mind.

GP knows I get them.
Nothing really can do. They may always come and go. I just mustn't dwell on them.

If the flashbacks are horrible and you hate them, then why can't your GP assist?

What kind of thing might help Scurry? I also suffer from flashbacks of an accident that my DS had. They really disturb me but I have been resigned to having to put up with them.

EMDR can help, so can CBT.

Sorry, it is Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing . It sounds odd but it works very well. I would recommend it.

Yes they are horrible and I hate them.
One of the techniques cbt uses is to recognise the thought, accept it, don't dwell on it, and let it float off, like a cloud.

This technique is used in Buddhism to help recognise suffering and move on from suffering.

My mistake, that I've just recognised, which is good that I've recognised, coz that's the first step, which requires lots of practise, is that I labelled the flash backs unpleasant and horrible and that I hate them. Which I should not do. I shouldn't label them or I would continue to focus on the negative.

Some flashbacks can all consuming though and not easy to dismiss. When they start interfering with your basic functioning, it may be time for another therapy.

They use to be very consuming but I've learnt techniques myself and they sometime work
