Anyone with Menieres? Or ear problems?

I'm really struggling with pressure in my ears today and can't relieve it. It's driving me potty. Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make it go away. It feels like someone has inflated a balloon in my ears.

Can't help but feel your pain.

I got labyrinthitis 4 years ago and have been left with residual dizziness/nausea/tiredness/left ear pain/feelings of fullness in ears intermittently ever since.

Rubbish isn't it.

Whenever I get tired it gets worse, or develop a cold.

Drs thought it was Menieres but haven't had any spins since initial labyrinthitis.

The Menieres Society might have some good advice. Also there is a FB support group for Menieres

Hope you feel better soon.

How long have you had Menieres/ear problems?

Sorry I can't give you any good practical help

Thanks for responding - ive had this for about 2 years. The dizziness & vertigo seems to be under control but the tinnitus & pressure is not. It makes me feel yucky! I can't fix the tinnitus but I'd I could ease the pressure, it'd help.

Unpleasant, isn't it?

Just remembered a low salt diet is meant to help, and caffeine free diet....but you probably know this already!

Rest tended to help me too with all the symptoms, if I had the chance.

Do you have a good consultant?

Mine was rubbish so I gave up seeing him. Also have either been pregnant or BF for 3 years so unable to take meds.

Hope yours gets better, there's a 60 to 70 percent chance it resolves after a few years I think isn't there?

I still get momentarily scared when I get dizzy if I haven't had it for a while, esp when I'm alone with the DC's. I had to give up work because of it.

I've got tinnitus. I had some terrible episodes of labyrinthitis a while ago, nothing recently thank god. I haven't bothered going to the doctor as I know nothing can be done about the tinnitus.

I feel my ear on one side is permanently blocked up on the inside. I have read that adults can have grommets to help drain the ear but there's a risk of infection and I'm not sure if it's worth it in my case. I'm definately a bit deaf in the affected ear though.

Thank you. I do the low salt diet thing and am on 2 meds to help with fluid balance. My consultant is dismissive and they can't do much to help other than meds. They can't make it go away. I just need to find a way to relieve the discomfort of the pressure. I guess no-one has a miracle cure Sad

Sorry to hear your consultant is dismissive.

I couldn't understand why my consultant was so disinterested, I was obviously distressed but he just didn't seem to care at all. At the third appointment he said " The thyroid is actually my speciality" Hmm
He might as well have said "You are boring to me".

I would have got a second opinion if I hadn't got pregnant, as I found the idea that I just had to live with the symptoms and get on with it too depressing.

Would you consider seeing someone else? Prof Linda Luxon in London is meant to be amazing, have you hear of her? a friend of mine went to see her and received excellent compassionate care and meds that worked really well. She's the UK's top inner ear specialist I think. I think she's passionate about what she does and really gets how awful it is for people with inner ear problems. I hope to see her or this other chap who is meant to be great who works at Medway when my DC's are older.

Hope you feel better soon

Perhaps my consultant is not dismissive - it's just that they can't do much. Am on all the meds they can offer and they've referred me for counselling to help cope with the tinnitus so they're at a loss. They seem bored - a bit like yours. Someone else has recommended an ENT in London. I might pursue it if nothing else helps.

Yes I would...IMe these big London teaching hospitals often have more up to date/new treatments, and are passionate about their specialities.
Hope you are feeling a bit better [busmile]
