I have washed it thoroughly, but it's quite irritated - what about savlon?

puff what is it, could try to look it up on the website for stuff like that

puff · 06/02/2006 18:05

Well it says it's corrosive (which I knew so had extra long gloves on, but some dribbled inside).

Put it under running water, and keep it there - for ages and ages. It's a burn, just a chemical burn instead of a heat burn. Just make sure that it is running water, to wash the chemicals away - otherwise the chemicals will just dissolve in the water and you'll get a burn ring around your arm where the top of the water is, to add to your joys!

found the website, whats its name, is it an acid or alkali formula

puff · 06/02/2006 18:07

ok, eek - it's got caustic soda in it - will run under tap more

yep keep going with the running water.....

WigWamBam · 06/02/2006 18:10

At least 10 minutes under the water - more if you can stand it.

chapsmum · 06/02/2006 18:10

This is an alkali burn, if you come back before you've runn it under water for 15 mins go away and rinse some more, then get back to us

Blandmum · 06/02/2006 18:10

If it is caustic soda then vinegar will help to nutralise it. Casustic soda is an alkali and vinegar is an acid....they cancel each other out

chapsmum · 06/02/2006 18:14

Spot the chemist....not a good idea martian, the reaction would cause heat which could potentially make the burn worse, best to just irrigate then seek medical advise

Thanks folks - ran it under water for a good while - have a couple of small red sore patches, but think it will be ok. Next time I'll wear a full bodysuit to clean the oven !
