I did something to my back while swimming with dd today(she loves to jump off the side)
But we are ttc so not sure about taking ibuprofen or really hot baths, does anyone have any other great ideas about what I can do.

Deep Heat is good (although a bit smelly). And you can take paracetamol.

Carameli · 06/02/2006 13:02

forgot about paracetamol, thanks.
will look into deep heat, just a bit over cautious as had a mc last year, don't want to risk anything if I can get away with it.

You could fill a hot water bottle with not-too-hot water and hold that against the sore place. Would be similar to Deep Heat but wouldn't do any harm, I don't think, as long as water not boiling.

Hope you feel better soon!

Might be worth a trip to an osteopath to get a diagnosis of what you have actually done?? If there is swelling around the area you have hurt then ice packs are better than heat packs - although alternating the two should be ok.

Try to keep moving as much as possible - too much resting a back can be counter productive. Not that you probably get much chance to rest with a toddler....

Don't suppose this will be of immediate help, but I am told pilates strengthens the back. I have just started and quite like it. It is my idea of exercise - mostly done lying down!!

Carameli · 06/02/2006 13:22

had thought about looking at Pilates before this just as a different way of exercising, will certainly look into it more now.

will try the oht water bottle for a bit as dd is now having a sleep but yes I agree that moving seems to help.

might be worth a trip to someone medically qualified to see what you have done
Physiotherapists are marvellous with back pain

keep moving - sitting or laying flat for prolonged periods doesn't help.
