Thread #2 on the subject of my breast! Anyone know anything about augmentin/flucloxacillin and what happens when they don't work?!

Look in breast/bottle feeding and you'll find a complete saga about my breast... anyway the short story is...

Came down with fever, big red lines all over breast, went to hospital, got fobbed off, got given augmentin, augmentin didn't work, went back, got very fobbed off, got given flucloxacillin, seemed to work, got one day left of tablets now and the red lines are beginning to come back...

What now?

I'm asking you rather than going to the docs because I need to be armed with info on ABs as last time I was prescribed SUDOCREM by some absolute arse of a doctor when I blatently had a raging infection (lyphangitis type thing)

Thanks Lev, you guys are so nice to me I've got an appointment at 10:30 this morning at GP's, if it goes tits up (heehee) I've got the number somewhere of the breastfeeding counsellor... I haven't called yet because a) we called LWH and they said they didn't do breast problems (pmsl!) and b) the very same breastfeeding counsellor told me when DD had jaundice that I wasn't allowed to cup/syringe feed her at home and without asking shoved a bottle (thankfully ebm) in her mouth and made me cry!

But I'll get it sorted cos I'm fed up now...

Yay I can still go to the charity shops with MTS

oh good, glad you've got an appointment this morning! there are at least 2 bfcs at LWH - I found one useless and one great - whilst Hannah thought the one I thought was useless was great and vice versa LOL!!!

biglips · 06/02/2006 09:12

let us know how you get on today!

chapsmum · 06/02/2006 09:33

sorry fastalseep, am an a and e nurse, prospect of breast clinic shouldnt be worrying.
Basically if your not getting the treatment you need (sudocrem?!!!) you need to speak to a dr who is a specialist in that area ( ie the boob!)
Good luck today

Lol very glad I got the appointment so I see

I don't see how silly breastfeeding counsellors can help, they'll just try and put DD back on the breast and she won't do it, I mean you think I'd be sat there with a pump if she would? Silly BFC's herrumph!

I'm wearing my no nonsense clothes, no more frumpy nice girl! The doctor's going to have to do something...

it doesn't look any worse this morning (which will make the GP want to ignore it, great) but it hurts more... I think it's because I'm freeeezing, as soon as I warm up the redness get angrier.. I'll let you know how it goes, might be in a rush to see MTS though so it could be later this afternoon

woops! i pressed post then left the room came back to find dd near keyboard looking furtive, now i know why!
i just think thatit makes sense that a breast clinic may have more idea of whats going on IYSWIM.

Levanna · 06/02/2006 11:08

at the bfc you saw!

Good luck at the GP's

hunkermunker · 06/02/2006 14:36

How did it go at the GP, FA?

fastasleep · 06/02/2006 17:11

It went well! She was the first person to actually feel my breast, which is a good sign! She says definately lymphangitis, gave me another course of flucloxacillin, got to go back Monday, if it hasn't worked she's referring me straight to a breast specialist so I'm getting somewhere

thankyou everyone! Sorry it took me so long to reply I've been rampant in Mothercare all afternoon

chapsmum · 06/02/2006 17:15

spacecadet · 06/02/2006 17:28

biglips · 07/02/2006 12:13

fastasleep · 07/02/2006 12:50

I hope these ABs work, I'm fed up of the side effects now!

I'd really press to see a specialist in your local hospital breast unit if this doesn't clear up asap this time round. I had something similar when breastfeeding ds. Flucloxicillin times two didn't clear it up and i ended up developing a breast abscess requiring drainage (yuck) and intravenous ABs. Still got scar tissue and it got a bit infected in this pregnancy so is a bit of an ongoing issue 3 years on. Not an outcome i would recommend
