They say natural yogurt but I've never had to try it. Don't know would that be the live one or m=not?

pessary, definitely. you can buy it over the counter, but it's quite expensive (over a tenner i think). can you ring the dr tomorrow & get them to leave a prescription with the receptionist for you?

jellyjelly · 05/02/2006 21:02

I guess i could give it a go, I am not sure if they would do that without examining me, which i certainly dont want.

I know the doctor who accused me of being a victim of dv is on tomorrow. So i obviously dont want to see him.

I'm sure they wouldn't examine you to write a prescription You can get a 'combi pack' of pessary and cream, with only one prescription charge.

If it's severe, it can take a couple of pessaries to work We have to treat dh & ds everytime I get it as I'm still bf.

Natural yoghurt will definitely ease the itching - I tried it as a last resort on holiday when I couldn't find a pharmacist open anywhere.

Homeopathy. Go to see a proper homeopath.
Cut out sugar and yeast (bread, wine etc) for the time being as it thrives on these things.

I had it really badly one pregnancy and the midwives suggested something to me which really worked even though it sounds bizarre. Nothing else had worked for me so I tried this and it literally went overnight.

Peel a garlic clove, put a few drops of tea tree oil into it, thread a length of cotton through it and then put it in the vagina overnight. (The cotton is so that you can retrieve it again easily). It's not sexy, but it's mean on thrush.

Good luck.

Why do you not want to be examined?

Are you pregnant btw?

I had it recurrently through my pregnancy - in the end it just went when I gave birth. I had 4 swabs taken because they couldn't believe it wasn't shifting!

You can take the pessary for several days running BUT this is a special pessary which is a lower dose than the usual one-off pessary, so make sure that the GP prescribes the right pessary. During my pregnancy I found that a 3-night dose would shift it, but only for about a week and then it came back. There was no possible way I was getting it from DH.

Good luck.

Because i have a broken leg, had food poisioning, leg infections, cold and then my arse of the doctor suggested that i was being hit around by my dh which i am not and was this how i got my broken leg?. I hadnt even gone in to see him but the nurse. I really hate my doctor and do not want him to touch me at all.

Pregnancy wise this broken leg is a fab contraceptive and i cant wait till i am a bit better.

Does dh have to be treated even if we havent been together for about 8 weeks? and wont for a little while longer?

You have my sympathy, I always get thrush with abs too. I tried that oral treatment at the weekend and it just gave me diarrheoa! I find pessaries a lot better.

sazzlealsop · 07/02/2006 17:19

I've used canestan once, which is a concentrated cream that you insert like a pessary at night time. Always works and you only need it once as its concentrated. it costs about £8 from boots

Carmenere · 07/02/2006 17:20

Have you tried taking acidophilus supplements? They are bacteria that naturally occur in the gut and can help redress the imbalance that causes thrush. I find it really works for me.

PandaG · 07/02/2006 17:53

I've found that the unbranded oral tablet is cheaper and more (or at least as)effective than canesten and diflucan - ask your pharmacist. My dh has regularly passed it back to me without realising he had it. Think men need to apply cream 3x a day for about 4 weeks to kill it, but they can use oral tablet too - much simpler in the long run! I found cutting down on refined sugar helped, and my gp suggested ironing my knickers on high temp to make sure I killed it - lower temp washing doesn't apparently. Thrush is really crap tho' I sympathise!

jellyjelly · 07/02/2006 19:49

I wish i could stand up to iron or the knowledge on how to use it!. I am feeling a bit better but still not gone, have had it for 6 days now so will go on friday or thursday to the docs if not ok by then.

I have only had thrush once and I realise now it was after a course of anti-biotics so that was probably the reason. At the time though I was a shy virgin and held off from seeing the GP for ages. Agonisingly itchy ages. I tried natural yoghurt and vinegar (bathing the affected parts in them) and vinegar still reminds me of that time!

Eventually I could bear it no longer and went to GP. She did not examine me, although she did ask what were for me embarrassing questions re the non-existant sex life, and gave me some pessaries which were an instant blessed relief.

I know you say you have tried Canesten and you do not like your GP, but for me, it was the only answer.

How about a Well Woman clinic if you don't want to see GP?

singersgirl · 07/02/2006 20:55

Outside possibility that it isn't thrush, and could be vaginal bacteriosis, which has similar symptoms (discharge, itching, pain) but is caused by overgrowth of one of normal vaginal bacteria (often gardnerella). I only add this because I was being treated for thrush for years and it took a trip to a GU clinic to get the right treatment.
