Headache and sickness after long flight - any tips or tricks to avoid please?

We are flying off to California at the weekend for a hol, for which is lovely. The problem is that every time I fly west (doesn't seem to happen going east for some reason...) on a long flight, the next day I wake up with a really bad headache and either feeling or being sick. I do get migraine with aura, and it is pretty similar to this, but as it always seems to come on when I am asleep I am not sure if it IS a migraine or "just" a headache.

Try to not eat to heavily before travel, don't drink booze wile flying, drink lots of water etc, but it has still happened every time I have travelled far. I am normally able to get out of bed by the aft of the first day away, but it is such a shame to always miss the first bit of fun with dh and ds :( Any one with similar experience, or ideas of anything I can try that might help, however weird and wonderful gratefully received.

Salt and carbs works for me - after a huge number of long haul flights, I now know that what I need to do is get on the plane having eaten (not greasy, a visit to Wagamama at T5 is my fave), not really eat on the plane, just drink water or soft drinks, then get off the plane and have chips and a latte.

In case it is a migraine (could be exacerbated by bad neck position on the plane btw), try taking a migraleve before bed

My dh has sinus problems and gets terrible headaches after flying, so he always takes decongestants. It doesn't cause sickness for him, though, so may not be the same thing.

Water and carbs when you land. I don't really eat onboard but a big bar of chocolate to get the sugar going followed by stodge seems to do the trick. Always seems to happen to me westbound only too!

Ohhh, you lovely people :) Sorry, only just had chance to check back, but really appreciate the suggestions. Am going to go with the salt/carbs pre flight I think, not eat too much on board, but drink loads of water...then do I go for chips or chocolate after lol. Your comments rang a bell with me, as what I REALLY crave as soon as I am past the feeling/being sick stage of a migraine is really salty, plan pasta, or failing that a bag of ready salted crisps. hermionestranger, I thought I was a bit mad with it just seeming to happen on the westbound, you made me feel lots better :)
