GP wants to see dh by end of month...

... because otherwise the practice would lose funding??
GP practice called and insisted they need to see dh by the end of the month (ie the end of this week) as they would otherwise lose funding for him. Dh is healthy and has never needed to see a doctor since we registered with this practice nearly 2 years ago.
I think it's a bit cheeky of them to want to see him just for the funding. I can't seem to find any I information on this topic and think he shouldn't be going. Any advice?

Surely he's been for jabs, so that would count?

ContinentalKat · 26/03/2012 17:07

No, he hasn't been at all. Just registered and has been healthy as a horse since!

Have they done the introductory medical, or is that still pending?? That'd be the only reason I can think they might be wanting to see him.

Until today they were happy without the initial check-up. The not-so-friendly lady on the phone probably shouldn't have told me that the "urgent blood pressure check by the end of the month" has to be done so that they keep the funding.

If he has ever had a high BP result he has to be tested once a year for the practice to meet criteria for good care.

Every Pt should have a BP recorded at least once, plus smoking status etc. I work in a surgery - it is frantic at the moment as if you don't get the right numbers recorded it DOES affect funding that pays the staff, rent etc.

If he can spare 5mins (all it takes), go and do it if you like your surgery under all other circumstances.

so....if you are healthy you need to be seen by your gp soonish otherwise they will loose their funding , which leaves fewer spaces for the ill to be seen.......

I think GP practices are under pressure to ensure their lists contain only real patients, and not people who have moved or are registered elsewhere. In some areas the lists are rather longer than the population, I am told. So they are checking their patients to make sure they are real. But my DH has been to the GP once in years and they haven't chased him, but then I am a regular attender ;).

How strange. I don't think DS has been to the GP in about 8 years unlike his sister who is there about 3 times a month.

ContinentalKat · 26/03/2012 22:14

Funnyperson, my thoughts exactly. He was asked today which day and time was convenient for him, yet when me or dcs are ill it's difficult to get any appointment at all. Little flaws in the system....

If your DH was as healthy as a horse he would be costing you a fortune in vet's bills! My DH had this from our GP so went in for a blood pressure and cholesterol check to keep them happy.
