dd who is 4 has a very red, sore bottom, front and back. After bath have put some sudocream on to soothe but not sure what is causing it.

At Xmas she had bad urine infection which has gone now. She never and has never drunk enough fluids despite my constant efforts, but has never had this before.

Anyone know what causes it and how to treat?

BTW, rarely use bubble bath and never soap.

thrush maybe? could be red if she has been itching... and more likely if she had ab's to treat her infection

Could she be doing little bits of wee in her knickers? Or not wiping properly after weeing?

Do she still wear a nappy in bed?? if so it could be the urine causing it if she is not drinking enough fluids.

bagpussmice · 03/02/2006 19:11

don't think it's thrush as not noticed her itching and she's not complained of itching.
She doesn't wear a nappy in bed.
Could be leaking urine or not wiping properly... v. tricky with independant 4 year old to keep checking or to wipe for her - have explained how important to wipe properly.
The lack of fluids is a realy problem... must work on that one although constantly trying

I agree, it is tricky. My dd (5) had this problem quite recently, and I said I thought it might be because she was waiting too long to go when she needed a wee, and it was important she went as soon as she felt she needed it. If she ever found that there was a bit of wee in her knickers then she should put on a clean pair, although this wasn't the preferred option.
Did the trick right away, but that extra year in age probably adds quite a lot of rationality.
