Blurred vision - could it be linked to psorasis/psoriatic arthritis?

I have has psoriasis since being a young teen, and was dx with psoriatic arthritis last summer.

I already have contacts as I am short sighted, but over the last few weeks I seem to have blurred vision every so often. I'm not due an eye appointment for quite a while, but I am at rhuematologists tomorrow as having a PA flare up. Vision is blurred again tonight. Niot enough to prevent me doing sutff - just annoying.

Could they be related? I have read some stuff online - some suggest yes, others seem to have no link? Anyone?

I have some form of psoriasis on my face from time to time. Could be seb derm or psoriasis or a fun filled mix of both - they're never sure. Another dermatology visit tomorrow so maybe I will find out.

Anyway I get blurred eyes, particularly with contacts, but it's to do with the oil/cream I put on my face. Even if it's nowhere near the eyes, it soaks in somehow and the contacts seem to trap a film of it IYSWIM. All the creams do it.

If you can blink it away eventually, it might be that?

I don't have psorasis n my face at all. It is mainly on my scalp - occasionally on my hands/feet, or in my ears. No creams on my face bar general moisutriser.

Could be the lubrication in your eyes isn't working too efficiently? I used to get blurry eyes with contact lenses quite often. In my case, the oily part of my eye lubrication, which comes out of the meibomian glands, was a bit too thick, so instead of coming out evenly, would seem either not to come out enough so that my eyes got rather dry (which would make them blurry and my contact lenses feel like cling film pulling on my eyes) or would suddenly come out in a big blodge of greasiness which the contacts would then stop from being rapidly spread across my eye in the way it should, which also made my vision blurry. I think eczema can make people more prone to blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction, so maybe psoriasis can have a similar effect????? Worth asking, tomorrow, anyway.

There are two things going on - your eyes are 'drier' than average because of the arthritis.

You could also get iritis - I can tell you that is more to do with pain than blurrines - your iris becomes inflamed. If you get any pain go to the nearest eye A and E ASAP - the first time I thought it was conjuctivitis but by the time I was seen (2 days) my iris had stuck to the lense - there is apparently still a bit of eye colour stuck to the lense.

Tallk tot he rhumatologist about it, maybe consiider a different contact lense, or drops to keep them lubricated.

No ones mentioned Diabetes, I knew my DH had it when he complained of blurry vision.

You should get an appointment with your gp and ask for it to be checked out, my DH had no tiredness, excessive urination or excess hunger.

I've worn contacts for 19 years with no blurry vision.

Hulababy · 26/03/2012 16:52

Worn contacts for about 18 years or so. Blurred vision is only every do often and only in last few weeks or so

Oh, that gunky eye thing was mentioned at my last contact lens check a week or so ago - she recommended drops. Something to do with the lubrication being thicker and less efficient, rabbitstew puts it much better.
I presumed it was another problem entirely, I didn't think it could be associated with the psoriasis but it makes sense.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 26/03/2012 19:27

Have you seen an optician? Worth getting an opinion. For what it's worth I've had fair bit of eye trouble and have PA. can pm me if you want more info.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 26/03/2012 19:28

Just to echo sashh

"You could also get iritis - I can tell you that is more to do with pain than blurrines. If you get any pain go to the nearest eye A and E ASAP"

This can be 'very uncomfortable' ( med speak for total and utter agony ).

Also, there is quite a stong association between Iritis and some GI issues.

(Nutmeg is no longer slow about heading for eye A & E at the first hint of this )

Nutmeg

P.S. Another name for Iritis is Anterior Uveitis. Uveitis is the third most common cause of blindness in the western world ( after glaucoma and diabetes )
