Sudden very short headaches - any experiences anyone?

We found out last night that DS (7) has experienced about 4 very sudden but very short headaches in the past week or so. He did bump his head quite hard two weeks ago, but it was only last night when I witnessed one of the episodes that he then said this had happened a few times in the past week. Always in the same place near the back of his head, which we think is where it was bumped before.

He says it feels like bursting in his head - a star exploding he said. It made him really yelp and cry out in pain. On at least a couple of the occasions, as we can work out, it was shortly after a burst of activity (eg. running up the stairs last night). The whole thing from start to finish was probably less than two minutes and he says this is exactly how it happened the other times. He is then completely fine and is otherwise fit and well in all respects. Sleeping, eating, schooling, playing, behaviour are all completely normal.

I have taken him to the GP this morning who was very thorough with all sorts of checks and also reassuring. She believes this relates to the bump and that the bruising on the skull/membrane might cause this type of pain. We are monitoring him and if they get more frequent or worse, we will go to A&E.

I just wondered whether anyone had had similar episodes with themselves or their child and what the outcome was?

TIA.

I have posted under post concussive syndrome and have been having headaches for the past two weeks since hitting the back of my head. Although I'm not having short sharp headaches I have been surprised just how ill a relatively minor head bang has made me feel. I've been getting migraine type headaches and have been having to rest constantly. Everything I've read (and been checked by doctors) says to rest, drink fluids and eventually it will clear but it can take a while.

Its a worry as you think more should be done but it appears you just have to let the brain recover.

Tyniclogs. Sorry to hear you have been so under the weather with this.

And yes, taking it easy and just keeping an eye on things is probably what it needs. Hard to persuade a 7yo to slow down though!

Hope you feel better soon.
