Hi, I don't even know if I have posted this in the right area of mumsnet, but hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction. My dd started her periods last August just weeks after her 14 birthday and has had them regularly up till 31 jan 2012, the start of her last one. Nothing since. She is very open about things and has not seemed worried or anxious by this and she knows the facts of life better than myself, so if there was a chance of being pregnant she would be concerned. I will however do a pregnancy test in a secret way by asking her for a sample to take to doc to rule out kidney infection, and then dip a pregnancy stick in it to check. My dd is very small for her age, height wise, perfectly proportioned though, and no learning difficulties etc. she has been a bit stressed by GCSE work and assessments, but I can remember being much more stressed and my periods were never affected. Does anyone have any experience or advice as my mind is running away with me about pituitary tumours and all sorts. Please, please help. I need to switch off as she has just come down with a bit of a headache and I need to go to her. Thank you.

Hi assumpta, my DD had regular periods for a time when she first started, then occasionally missed a few - ie not late but actually seemed like she skipped a whole cycle. That is likely what is happening to your DD.

I think people will pounce on you on here for covert pregnancy test but I can see where you are coming from, and would most likely do the same. To be honest though, I think it's all perfectly normal in the early stages of having periods, it's not been that long for your daughter. That said, if it were my DD, I'd take her to the GP just to rule out out pregnancy and other sinister things you are worrying about.

Lilolil - thank you so much for that. It has put my mind at ease. Did your dd start off quite regular, and then skip, have some periods, then skip again? Thank you again.

yes, like clockwork to start with, then missed one, then regular, then missed another one. Her cycle has also changed and is shorter than it was at the beginning, but back to being regular again.

Nothing you have said sounds alarming to me, but might be worth going to see your GP to find out what they think is "normal", and what they would consider cause for concern at that age, just to put your mind at rest - I'm not a medical professional so can only give you my opinion.
