severe pain and fibroids

Have finally been diagnosed with enlarged uterus and fibroids, had a laparoscopy due to severe pain that displayed symptoms of endometriosis, but its definitely not, which is good. So the enlarged uterus and fibroids makes total sense but my pain is severe, my options now are...drugs to stop my cycle for a while, fibroidectomy, or finally hysterectomy. I have a question, if I have hysterectomy will it stop the horrendous ovulation pain that I get because I am only young they wouldnt remove my ovaries so would i still get that pain? The ovulation pain is just so bad. I have had pain this week in my right side for a few days and its peaking today so I guess the egg is being released. This morning I couldnt go to the toilet for a while because the pain was so horrendous. It is very bad right now and my back is agony, I dont understand why it hurts SOO much, how big are my eggs anyway...like a chicken fgs! Any feedback or experience would be so good. Im so fed up of having this pain Sad

woah sorry to hear that you feel so bad. My sister was diagnosed with fibroids yesterday, hers are not that big, but she gets very painful periods aswell. At the moment she doesn't need any treatment, only strong painkillers when she is on. I am not sure if this is any use, or is used for fibroids, but worth looking at.

I'm 43 and am getting a hysterectomy, I was told they usually keep your ovaries in unless you are 45 or over. I get ovulation pain and have cysts on my right ovary and I asked would they take them out. There wasn't a problem with this.

Have you asked them to take them out?

woahthere · 21/03/2012 13:35

no i dont want them out i dont think, im too young and dont want to go through menopause! im still weighing it all up

I had a hysterectomy when I was 38, (fibroids +complications) - they left one ovary (the other had to be removed due to the comps), the horrendous pain stopped my as obviously did my horrific periods (as my Gynae said less of a period more of a haemorrhage). I felt infinitely better afterwards, it effectively changed my life.

I didn't need HRT as one ovary left. I didn't have menopause until recently (am in my fifties now)

There's lots to weigh up, but I sympathise with the ghastliness that is fibroids, and hope you find a solution, - don't be fobbed off.

I had to have a a hysterectomy just over 12mths ago as I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I suffered horrific ovulation and period pains beforehand and can honestly say that, even though I have one ovary remaining, it was the best thing I ever did. Not that I had much choice but it has changed my life in so many ways. I still get occasional twinges of pain, sore breasts etc but these are probably happen once every three or four months. I suffer from some menopausal symptoms, such as hot sweats, and I think my hormone levels are a bit up and down at the moment but I would recommend a hysterectomy to anyone who has completed their family - there really is no need to suffer.

Are you ok now lilypickle, sorry to hear you went through that, i trust the cancer is gone. im getting the general sense that hysterectomy...for anyone that lives with pain, is a good thing. Now just need to be sure my family is complete, gulp, not a great time to be wondering this as am working through a rough patch with my oh. Do you still get ovulation pain on your remaining ovary lilypickle?

woah sorry to hear that you are going through this, and working through a rough patch with your oh. As darby has mentioned, have you lokked into novosure?

woahthere · 22/03/2012 21:38

I'm not too sure about novosure. I dont really get heavy periods. The ovulation pain is the worst, and the pressure and pelvic pain. My periods are a bit odd..they'll be quite light and then i have sudden gushes where there is a lot, its like it builds up inside me. thank you freshcream scones

I am absolutely fine, woah. I was extremely lucky and had the lowest grade, contained in just one ovary. I get very occasional pain from the one ovary I have left but it is just a bit naggy and doesn't last very long, nowhere near as bad as I used to get it. I had awful period pains ever since I started my periods and I feel like a new woman now.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 23/03/2012 19:01

They can do a procedure where they block off the blood supply to the fibroids to make them shrink (I can't remember what the procedure is called). I have them as well, not very painful but I'm bloated and I bleed a lot. I'm 34 and don't want to have a hysterectomy just yet.
