Pre School vaccinations, which are they?

My daughter is four and started school in September, we have received a letter saying she didn't have her 'pre school' vaccinations?

She had all the normal vaccines as a newborn etc, she also had single vaccines for MMR but only one lot, she had measles, rubella, but not mumps as there wasn't any? She hasn't had the second booster singles, as several people said they weren't necessary as they are just to make sure they have immunity?

Anyway, how many injections will she have to have? What will they be and are they absolutely necessary?

I hate the idea of her having an injection but if needs must I will get them done?

I know the above probably sounds naive but my HV hasn't had contact with me for years, and got the hump with me when she found out I'd paid for single vaccines Blush

Normally children receive a booster dose of diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis/polio, and their second MMR vaccines from about 3 yrs 4 mths onwards.

If she hasn't had her dip/tet/pert/polio then they may be calling her for that.

If you had singles done privately then Child Health may have no record of them, so be calling her for her MMR too. If you don't want her to have MMR maybe put something in writing for the GP surgery so they can inform Child Health (if you haven't already done so) then they should stop calling her for that.

None are compulsory, but if she's had her 3 baby primary doses then you may want to give her the preschool booster. The next dtpp would be due 10 years after the preschool booster.

Meant to say, the dip/tet/pert/polio is all in one vaccine, so just one for that.

(It's also advised that all children have a dose of Hib/Men C over the age of one so if she hasn't had that then they may call for that also. That would be another vaccine.)

she'll need one MMR (there is no single mumps anymore, no one seems to be able to get it, so if she is not immune after that MMR, she would need a second one at some point, mumps is the "weakest" component of the MMR in the first place - not ideal). Then she should go for the dTaP/IPV, which is the dip/tet/pert/polio Sidge was talking about and one MenC - she is too old to be needing a hib.

Catherina sorry yes I should have written it more clearly - if the child has had 2 doses of Men C and 3 doses of Hib under 1 and the booster at about 12-13 months then they don't need another Hib/Men C.

But if they haven't had that then a single dose of Hib/Men C is recommended for children up to 10, and then single Men C (no Hib) up to 24.
