Any link between hyperemesis in pregnancy and being more 'vomity' after dc born?

Dd is 11mo and ds nearly 3yo. I had really really bad morning sickness with both.

I am now battling my 3rd sicky bug since end of jan. :(

I was never a sickly person before but am SICK of being sick. :(

I never had many sick bugs as an adult until I had pre-school and primary age children.

Do you think it's just that they especially the 3yo, are just picking up more bugs? It's quite possible to have 3 different bugs in 6 weeks.

I'm a teacher so have been exposed to many germs since 2002. Hmm
Ds has hardly been sick - once since Christmas maybe.
Dd has had lots but she has just started nursery so that's normal.

Think I'm going to have to miss this week (0.4pt) and get in even more trouble from head. :(

The other thing I sometimes found is that a sick bug would sometimes "sensitise" my stomach, so that if I ate injudiciously, I would sometimes get a recurrence in short order.

Do you feel well and energetic in between bouts of sickness? Are you losing weight? If the answers are no and yes, perhaps it's time to see your GP.

I've felt worn out since dd arrived - not a brilliant sleeper. But the Kay two weeks have been better than most of 2012. Till I got this.

It's either food poisoning from meal out last night or tonsillitisi think, as my glands are up and I usually start with vomiting (although still got my voice so far)

I have read a LOT on Hyperemesis a I had it myself, and I have not seen a mention of a possible link between HG and being more susceptible to sickness bugs. Though perhaps your immune system is weakened as HG can make you quite weak and use up your resources? I don't know.

Can I ask though: How did you manage to have your DC so close together despite HG the first time round? (It put me off for ages.) And how did you manage looking after DC1 when you were experiencing HG with DC2? I am in awe of people who have several children with HG.

I have lost weight as despite eating crap I now fit into pre dc jeans.

I had HG with both pregnancies. Dd is 3 and ds is 8 weeks. I don't think I became more susceptible to stomach bigs but they seem to hit me worse. Eg with me it will last a week bit dh might get it for two days. I think I must be a sicky person as a lot of medicines make me queasy, I get travel sickness and anesthetic makes me really sick.

I think when you have a second pregnancy and suffer with HG you need lots of help. My mum helped out when I was in hospital on a drip. I felt so guilty with DD as I couldn't do much with her. We still used a Childminder even though I was signed off for most of my pregnancy. I also started maternity leave at 29 weeks. I will not be doing it again. I had the hope that I wouldn't get it with second pregnancy but it was worse so couldn't cope with it again.

Nomnomnom- I desperately wanted them to be close enough to play together and stupidly believed that it wouldn't be so bad second time. Plenty of people including HCP told me it'd be easier.
I was lucky i wasn't hospitalised but I used to plan my meals based on what was easiest to throw up later. Shock

I will NOT be having any more dc. Ever! I am an awful advert for pregnancy! Blush

I've been to dr for feelings of lethargy and taking ages to recover from bugs. Dr seemed to think I'm depressed- in not. He did a full blood count and checked thyroid. Apparently all normal.

It sounds like you're just run down and have caught things from your DC. Two kids are hard work, but you spent ages being ill even before your second!

My DD2 is also 11 months and a recent start at nursery. She's had ear infection, two stomach bugs, conjunctivitis and two colds, in 8 weeks! I've caught one of the stomach bugs and conjunctivitis. Sadly, if you're chief nappy changer, feeder and snot wiper, it's inevitable Smile

TheFallenMadonna · 18/03/2012 20:11

I didn't have hyperememsis, but was sick probably 3-5 times a day each pregnancy. I am convinced that I am sick much more easily now. Not more susceptible to bugs, just more likely to vomit if I get one IYSWIM.

Singleandproud · 18/03/2012 22:28

Yes, I had HG with DD now 2.5 years. I always got nausuous (sp?) on long journeys but nnow I feel travel sick when I go in a lift, on short bus journeys etc. 3 days before my periods I get sick.

kerstina · 19/03/2012 18:36

Very interesting thread I never suffered from travel sickness before I had my son at 32 but now i take a travel pill as start to feel nauseous on long journeys. In the first few months I had a constant nauseous flu type feeling but did not actual vomit so it was not HG.

theonlyhb2 · 22/03/2012 16:42

i had HG (DD now 7 months) and fell pregnant again despite being careful a few months ago. i had an awful post-birth (nearly died) and was still trying to recover, then the HG started again and I opted for a termination (which the hospital agreed with). But I seem to have been left with lingering HG, I feel sick, I am still off lots of food, I spent ages just feeling bloody knackered!

I find my migraines now are SO much worse, and I projectile vomit during them (something I didn't do before). I haven't had any sickness bugs thank god, but I am terrified of being sick! And I am fed up of being so fussy with food and not eating. Urgh. HG is a horrible horrible illness, it cannot be compared to morning sickness!
