DD has been given wrong vaccination

We've had had a letter saying that dd received the wrong men c jab at 12 weeks - they accidentally gave her the men c + hib jab rather that just the men c, meaning that she got a double dose of hib as it was also in the 5 in 1 jab. What disappoints me most is that it's taken them 10 weeks to tell us, and that in the meantime she's had her 16 week jabs including yet another dose of hib.

Does anyone know if there are any risks to receiving double doses of vaccine? Dd had no adverse reaction to the jabs at the time.

I'm going to talk to the Dr as I want to know how their procedures have changed so this can't happen again but I'd like to be armed with any pertinent questions about possible problems caused by the jab.

There are no problems associated with having an extra dose. This may be done occasionally unknowingly when children present with unknown vaccination histories. It is far better to be over protected than to miss a dose

It is howeaver a waste of nhs resources if not needed!

This happened because the nurse giving the jab picked the wrong vial. I think it'svery hard for any system to rule out that sort of human error but yes you should ask about it but really don't panic. Your baby is fine.

No problem with at all.

When they had a the catch-up campaign for Men C, a lot of children got an extra dose of Hib. Absolutely nothing to worry about.
