....it is driving ds2 insane. Had to bathe him at 11.30 last night which helped a little.

He has got out of the bath about 2 hours ago and is still dancing around in his room. Driving him nuts.

Does anyone know how to actually stop the itching?

Pleeeeeeeeaase!

vaseline and ad lavander oil to bathwater. We had an outbreak of this when I was a kid, it is very unpleasent.

QE2 · 02/02/2006 21:52

Well ds2 (the infected one) has settled with no itching tonight - THANK GOD!!! This must go down as one of the worst (minor) things a kid can get.

I have blitzed his room, hot washed his bedclothes and towel and pants.

ds4 is a bit crabby tonight though and has had a touch of diarrhoea - I'm assuming this is due to the pripsen last night?

Foxinsocks - thanks, yes I have marked in my diary the next dose.

I was able to buy pripsin over the counter, but I did have to tell them the GP advised me of it before they'd sell it to me. GP told me I could buy it.

Would agree with all the advice so far on washing bedclothes/using separate towels/ fingernails short & rigourous hand washing etc. Found the easy way to get rid of them was to look at child's bottom whenever they complain of an itch, with a bright light and wait... the blighters will wriggle out before your eyes and you can grab them! Then clean gently with cotton wool each time to rid of any eggs that were laid... they come out to the anus each night to lay eggs. hth and good luck!

QE2 dicky tummy is par the course with this treatment, thats how it kills them!, gets em out of the body fast as you like!
glad the itching is settling down...the joys of having kids eh?

QE2 · 03/02/2006 14:13

spacey, yes I gathered it would be something like that. Poor little mite - he didn't even have any worms!

ds2 is the only one infected but happily it seems he is over the worst of it now and settled well to slepp last night.

He has complained to the school office on several occasions that there is no soap in the boys' toilets - how can you encourage good hygiene when the school have no blimming soap?

spacecadet · 03/02/2006 15:43

QE2, I know my eldest 2 always complain of a lack of soap in the toilets, the primary school seem to be fine with keeping the soap stocked up, but the secondary school never seem to bother

my dd also suffered with these and the things had wiggled into her vagina to which gave her a uti, it never rains but it pours hey. We also turned to homeopathic medice to to get rid of them once and for all, and touch wood it has. Please also bear in mind that you tell teh school/nursery etc especially if have sand and play doah and the eggs can live in that

Freckle · 04/02/2006 18:43

Eurax cream. Excellent for all sorts of itching, such as chickenpox and unmentionables.

QE2 · 04/02/2006 22:10

I did tell the playgroup but didn't bother with the school as less likely to get passed on there.

He's not complained at all today so touch wood he is over them!

thast good then Qe2 its not nice for them.

ChicPea · 05/02/2006 20:39

What do you tell a child that has threadworms? They don't like worms in soil/the garden so how do you explain what they have on their bottom or even - struth - for a girl, in her vagina, without them getting hysterical??? Haven't experienced this thankfully but just want to be prepared if I do.

Eve · 05/02/2006 21:06

..get some grapefruit seed extrat... and health foos shop has it.

mine suffered repeated does of worms and I hated giving them the tablets all the time.

2 drops of this every day in water for about a month and we haven't had any re-occurences. When they start playing in the garden again in the summer I will repeat it.

Caroline5 · 05/02/2006 21:08

We were given Vermox - one spoonful does the trick (combined with all the hot washing etc)with no upset tummy and it even tastes nice! Think it's only available on prescription though.

Caroline5 · 05/02/2006 21:09

Yes we use the grapefruit seed extract as well - it's good stuff.

colditz · 05/02/2006 21:12

Chicpea - you don't. At all. You don't mention the word worms, you just say they have a rash that is itchy, and here is some medicine to make it better.

ChicPea · 07/02/2006 00:01

Silly me Colditz. Thanks for v.good advice. The word rash can cover a multitude of things.

JoeJoe · 07/02/2006 10:23

My daughter is only 9 months old so very new to all this - how do they get threadworm?
