8 wk vaccinations and calpol

The HVs in my area are against giving calpol post vaccine, basically unless baby has a temperature. Their reasons are:

  1. Giving calpol may mask illness that's unrelated to the vaccine.
  2. Studies have shown that giving calpol within a few days of the vaccine can influence the efficacy of the vaccine.

Anyone else heard this?

I haven't heard this, if it helps i gave my lb calpol about half hour BEFORE his vaccines, supposedly stops them developing any symptoms from it as the calpol is already in the system :) & was prescribed it after them aswell, although not needed it was free :D hahaha xx

yupp, heard this and 2) is right, so don't give Calpol with the vaccine, unless your LO is in pain afterwards. Most babies don't have anything anyway.

I have never heard of 2).

But I gave it only if needed after vaccs, sometimes they needed some, sometimes they didn't. I do use medicines but very stingily generally.

Yes, I've heard both too. Thanks for the link Catherina.

Yes. Was also true nearly 5 years ago when dd had her first vaccines. The nurse administering warned me in advance that giving calpol, particularly preventatively was now not recommended for the reasons given.
