DHis having a lot of problems with this at the moment.

He has very good control of his glucose levels, cholesterol, no BP probs etc etc, but it's still a problem. Does anyone know of anything that could help? Alternative therapies, vitamins, or just about anything really?

If you have not already joined this forum I would recommend you do - you and/or your DH can join - I am a parent if a T1 child.

I do not have experience of Retinopathy but a lot of people on that forum do and should be able to advise you.

Look forward to seeing you there:)

Thanks for that.

I try not to read too much apart from what's neccesary about the whole thing, it freaks me out too much! Pathetic, I know.

I had hoped asking on here would tell me what I wanted to know without having to read things that I'd rather not know and end up worrying about.

I don't mean that to sound ungrateful though! Smile

You don't need to read anything you don't want to - just ask your question and someone will, I guarantee, answer. It's just like this forum, only better Grin

There isn't much that can help really, other than maintaining good control.

I use the above forum too :o it is good and I have posted on there quite a bit about my experiences with retinopathy - which are extensive and now fortunately resolved.

PM me if you have any particular questions, I'll do my best to help.

...forgot to add, it's the spikes that he needs to level out, mostly - check 1 hour and 2 hour post-meal and make sure his readings are under 8mmol/l ish.

Thanks so much for the replies, I really appreciate it.

I will try and pluck up some courage to go over to those forums, I know it sounds really silly but the whole thing panics me quite a lot. I have a lot of wierd anxiety about it and even coming back to this thread has taken courage! I don't think I can get dh to have a look, especially as he feels he has things as under control as he possibly can. The services round here are very good, so we are lucky.

Rue, your posts are especially helpful, thank you. As far as I know the spikes are well under control, he deals with it well it's just that he was undiagnosed for a long time and had a lot of food issues.

It's encouraging to hear that your issues have been extensive but have been resolved.

I'm not sure if I have any answerable questions really, although I may well take you up on the PM offer, thank you. I guess I just want to know that it has a chance of being ok in the end. And was hoping there was something we could do to help. DH has has quite a few laser treatments, and had an operation. Now the eye that he had the op on has had another little bleed, which is apparently settling down, but will be checked again in a few weeks. It seems never ending, and of course we are scared his sight could be seriously affected.
