How to boost energy levels?

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 14/03/2012 12:30

I am struggling atm. I just don't have the energy to do stuff.

I have 2dcs 19m and 4yrs, youngest is quite active and full on, and we have all had about a month of various illnesses, so some exhaustion is to be expected! But even though we are getting more sleep now, I am struggling to function.

I don't work, but do have 2 horses that I spend the afternoons doing (that ticks the exercise and fresh air boxes!)

I am managing to feed everyone and get a load of washing done every day, but that is pretty much it. I usually go to bed at 10pm, and mostly get woken once in the night, although we have just had a couple of full night's sleep!

Do I need vitamins? Add anything/exclude anything from my diet?

It is making me miserable

Have you been to see your GP to check that you're not anaemic/thyroid problems?

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 14/03/2012 12:43

I used to suffer from anaemia, but since having the coil and resulting disappearance of periods have not had the usual symptoms (my gums go almost white)

I have given up bread for lent, but I don't think that has had any effect.

I have been googling, and dehydration can be a big factor apparently. I don't drink enough, I know that, maybe worth a go....

check out thyroid problems and see if the symptoms match. they can be varied but often include
light sleep, not feeling refreshed when waking
tired all the time
muscle pain/aches
feeling the cold very easily
brain fog

Metatone tonic from a chemist for say 3 days, can work if it is a temporary problem. But best to get checked out by a GP to be sure.

I find the supplement DHEA (7Keto) has helped me loads. It decreases in the body with age!

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 15/03/2012 07:57

Thanks all.

Is the metatone tonic just B vits and caffeine?

What age would it be necessary to supplement? I am 27.

Metatone tonic has Vit B1, Calcium glycerophosphate Ph Eur, Potassium glycerophosphate, sodium glycerophosphate, and manganese glycerophosphate NFX. Ive never been able to work out which of those is the 1 I need. I tend to use it approx twice a year, say eg after an illness , for 3 days to get me going again.
On the box it says, "For use after illness such as colds and flu, and when you are feeling tired and run down". Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, sounds like just the job!
