Do x-rays pick up cancer / tumours?

Only because I have miserable IBS / bowel problems that so far the hospital hasn't been able to diagnose. Apparently ovarian cancer can also present as IBS style symptoms, so obviously I'm having a minor panic Grin.

I had to have a lower back x-ray a few weeks ago and it was fine. So, I assume if there were things growing on my ovaries the x-ray would have seen them? And therefore I'm not about to keel over from something awful Confused.

I have another colorectal consultant apt this week so I'm going to mention it just in case.

TIA

Don't want to worry you or ignore this.
I was I hospital over the summer with abdominal cramps and had X-rays which showed 'shadows' I then had ultrasounds which showed abnormalities, CT scans which showed abnormalities and ended up having a colonoscopy which showed that I had a cancerous tumor in my bowel.

In answer to your question I think if there had been anything abnormal on your X-ray they would be doing more. But it might be that something did show which is why you have a colorectal appointment.

But they caught my tumor before it spread (was a stage 4,which it the worst), removed it & i have to take my last lot of chemo tablets tomorrow morning. I have follow up appointments coming out of my ears at the moment.

If you want to talk before or after the appointment I am happy to share my experiences.

No it can't always be picked up by X-ray. That's why they do MRI, CT, pet scans, ultrasound, etc.

If they thought it was your ovaries they would probably first send you for an ultrasound.

knitting I've already had a colonoscopy and biopsies and they were all ok. Endoscopy fine too.

I did have a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago (lots of bad smear tests and they couldn't cut any more of my cervix out) and they checked my ovaries at the time and said they were ok. But I do wonder.

I think I'll just insist on a full set of scans this time.

reeny I don't think they do think it's my ovaries as I'm currently plodding through all the colorectal tests, but they might all be looking in the wrong place Hmm.

oh, the x-ray was unlinked to all my colorectal appointments. I was bashed by a car (slowly) a few years ago and it felt a bit odd recently so had it checked out.

The consultant apt is just a routine one, I go every few weeks after the latest test / round of random medication to see if it helps. And nothing has helped so far. Not crohns / coleliac / UC / ulcers / bacteria etc......

GP called me and I've been referred for an ultrasound Smile.
