Recalled after breast MRI - panicking!

I have a strong family history of breast cancer so have been sent for screening. 2 weeks ago I had my first MRI and today I have had a letter telling me to go for an ultrasound next week. There is no other info on the letter so I rang the clinic. The receptionist would only say that it is following on from the MRI and they wanted to take another look. It is not a routine follow up as I have an apopintment next moth.

I'm bloody petrified Sad

I know MRIs can find it early, but as this was my first one, if they have found something it could have been there ages.

I was just starting to relax, thinking I would have heard by now if something was wrong.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Nip on over to the tamoxifen thread - am not sure how it works with MRIs but am certain someone on there will have an idea. I was recalled after a mammogram for further mammo and ultrasound - sometimes there are areas of dense tissue which need a closer look at and ultrasound is best for that.

Ah, poor you. Totally understand why you're freaking out, but as MAS says it's probably just checking and ultrasound is what they use a lot. Did you know 9 out of 10 referrals are nothing, so the odds are still with you. Smile Was it an MRI for Breast Cancer screening? I didn't know they did that, thought it was just Mammograms.

That's interesting. I've had treatment for BC and it's blindingly obvious that the sooner they find it, the easier it is to treat, so an MRI sounds like a great idea.

MAS is right about the Tamoxifen thread. We get the fear of it all because a lot of us have been diagnosed. We have a lot of people come and natter with us while they wait for tests and referrals too though. Quite often they end up with a good result. Smile

It seems to be very new and only in certain cases. That's probably why I can't find many people in the same situation as MRI seems to be usually used once something is suspected.

I've posted on the other thread now. Thanks Smile
