Could be your blood sugar i get it sometimes where i feel really shaky and feel flushed and really need to eat something sweet or bread then it passes

thinneratforty · 12/03/2012 16:01

Low blood sugar, I find orange juice helps and following a diabetic type diet. It's quite scary though and I have to be really careful.

Devora · 12/03/2012 16:03

Yep, that's low blood sugar. Horrible feeling.

TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 12/03/2012 16:06

Yes, that sounds like low blood sugar, it is a horrible feeling but soon passes when you get something to eat.

Saying that, it might be worth having a word with your GP just to check that there isn't a clinical cause for it.

BerthaTheBogBurglar · 12/03/2012 16:07

You need foods with a low GI - the carbohydrate/sugar in them takes longer to be absorbed so you don't "run out" after a couple of hours.

Or just carry a pack of biscuits with you Grin

Definitley go to your GP and ask for a diabetes and a thyroid test. It will not take long.

anniebear · 12/03/2012 20:05

thanks for that :) had blood tests done a few weeks back over something else, all fine :)

Can I ask if any of you get migraine symptoms with low blood sugar? Am sure it's connected in dd (16) - sometimes doesn't eat at school at all and comes home with headache.

PooPooInMyToes · 12/03/2012 21:36

You should still see the dr though as they would most like not have specifically tested for those things.

anniebear · 13/03/2012 08:54

Are you going to see the Dr?

My dh gets like that. He gets hot and passes out if he hasn't eaten for a while. Tests for diabetes came back negative, he's just weird!

magso · 13/03/2012 13:11

Me - and for me also its caused by low blood sugar. Some of us seem to run flat faster and the working day + commuting ( without proper food) is really too long for my body. I carry juice and snacks in the car and in my bag as I do not feel safe to drive once the shakes hit.
Goingmad -my husband gets migraine when he doesn't eat ( and then cannot eat!) Another reason for keeping snacks in the car.

Nomoremrtumble · 14/03/2012 15:44

Don't wait until after the school run to eat, include some protein with your breakfast and ditch the coffee. That should balance your blood sugar - hope it helps.

chubley · 14/03/2012 21:04

Eat some fruit mid-morning, before it strikes. Some cereals are quite high in sugar so cause a surge in insulin following a dip in blood sugar before lunchtime. I get this so I always take fruit to work. I don't have time for protein at breakfast so I eat muesli with fruit, which seems to help.

thanks
