Hi

I had a stroke on monday night, im 35 and had a csection 2 weeks ago. Im now out of hospital and recovering at home. ive got limited control in my arm but my leg is improving.
Has this happened to anyone else and did you recover well? i was really scared but i have been told that i didn't suffer any permanent brain damage. Im now taking aspirin and cholesterol tablets.
Im sorry if this is upsetting for stroke survivors or relatives of stroke victims.
Thanks for reading.

gosh thats tumultuous
with SALT, OT and physio you should see good results
ask hospital about cva support groups
look after your mental and physical health, and take care.
35 is so young but prognosis for recovery is v good

I have a friend who had a stroke at 37 she made a fast recovery and now 10 years later you would only notice if you knew IYSWIM.

Take care , think positive and congratulations on the new baby.

Strokes vary substantially in severity. Some are terrible and totally disabling (my Dad had one like that - but was much much older than you at the time). Some are barely significant.

The fact that you are out and already home (and that you have been told you had no permanent brain damage) suggests to me you might have had a TIA (transient ischaemic attack) rather than a full stroke (or at least a very minor stroke). Look this up and ask this at your follow-up appointment.

My main concern would be that you could be at risk of a bigger stroke as you get older. You should also ask about this and what you could do in terms of reducing this risk. Don't want to worry you but for most people there are ways you can significantly reduce these risks - so its worth you knowing about.

I hope this helps and hope you continue to recover well. And congrats! [did you have high blood pressure during pregnancy]

I had a friend who had a stroke in childbirth in her mid 30s. She made a near full recovery, she walks with a VERY slight limp and has had more DCs.

My SIL's sister had a stroke in mid-late 30s in Tesco. She was poorly for a while and couldn't speak for some time. Again, she has fully recovered.

Hope you recover well and congratulations on your new baby.

My brother had a stroke at 17, but sadly he died (of something different) a couple of years later, just as he was starting to recover :(

It's fairly uncommon to have a stroke before the age of 65-ish, but not unheard of and there are quite a few survivors around.

There is a great association for young (i.e. under 65) stroke victims. It's www.differentstrokes.co.uk/

Thank you for all your comments, feeling more positive today. Ive got a physio coming to see me this week and someone from the stroke association.

Hi Worldgonemad72, I don't post very often but read your posts and felt I had to. I am just 40 and have also recently had a stroke. It was 3 months ago and I thought at first I was having a weird migraine as i do get migraine. I had numbness in my hand and foot on one side and lots of headaches. As it went on for longer than a migraine should i saw a neurologist and had a scan. This showed several little spots on my brain although none really in the right place for my symptoms. I was told it was severe constant migraines, but referred to a cardiologist in case there was a problem in my heart that could have caused a blood clot to travel up and cause a small stroke. I then had an echo scan of my heart which has shown a hole that has been present since birth but never caused problems before and also one of the walls inside my heart is too floppy. I am now waiting to see another cardiologist to discuss whether to repair this to prevent a further stroke. I know I am lucky that it was only a mild stroke but I am not feeling lucky to be honest. It's such a shock. I am lucky that I don't have any weakness but I still have lots of pins and needles and also deep achy pain which is really getting me down. I am also really tired a lot of the time. I have gone back to work but less hours which is sort of ok. It must be hard dealing with a newborn as well as this. I hope you are feeling ok and a little stronger each week. Not sure I have any useful advice as this is new for me too but just wanted you to know you are not alone. GW
