Donated blood

For the first time last night. Was absolutely fine afterward but today I have been on the verge of throwing up, my legs hurt and I feel like I could sleep for a week. Is that normal after donating blood or might I just be coming down with something? I am eight stone, are the after effects worse if you are on the lighter side? Still doing it again though!

Yes I felt dreadful after my first time but ever since have been fine so maybe it's a shock to your body the first time. No scientific basis for that at all!!

Feeling a bit better now, thanks for the reply! Will go again in three months, see what happens.

Thank you so much for donating. I am here today because of people like you Smile

Are you very slim? I have a smaller amount taken as if they take the full amount I am very poorly afterwards.

The first time is always the worst.

I am 8 stone, so perhaps it's that. I feel better today and will be going again Smile

Take it easy for a day or two and make sure you drink lots (and eat lots too) to get your blood volume back up. I remember climbing the 4 flights of stairs to the school library the day after I gave for the first time, and huffing and puffing like I'd just run a marathon! I was back to normal very quickly. Well done for donating. It's a wonderful and selfless thing that you have done. :)

I gave blood for the first time in January. I weigh 10 stone so a bit more than you Wink
I was expecting some after effects like tiredness, dizziness....but the worst thing for me was the nausea. It hit really suddenly and lasted a good few hours. Was really tired the day after too. Have also been assured the first time is always the worst. Will be back again very soon!

Thank you! My life has been saved on several occasions.

Wow you lot deserve a medal for donating your blood this is such a wonderful gift to give those that need it. Once the Department of Health give their approval to introduce the recently developed blood test for screening donated blood for vCJD (this test is currently on trial in London using 5000 US blood samples) then I will be donating my blood to. I cant donate my blood or organs overseas, but once this blood test has been introduced I guess this ban will be lifted, lets hope so. I know the DOH are considering introducing a filter to filter blood for under 16 year olds (all to do with vcjd/human bse) not sure when or if this will be introduced.

I bet they took the full amount, next time you go tell them and ask for a smaller amount to be taken.

I was 7.5 stone first time I went and felt awful too.
