On Wednesday I felt far more tired than usual (work FT, 1 year old, exercise regularly, generally busy life) and found it hard to keep awake whilst working. By the time I dragged myself off to bed I was being quite clumsy. Baby had accidentally kicked me in the tummy earlier that evening which really hurt more than I thought it should have done and I had noticed while collecting him from nursery that my tummy was a bit achy.

Went to bed early and when I woke Thursday morning found that my head was seemingly about to fall off and I was having trouble speaking as it was just too much effort. Stayed home from work, took two ibuprofen and went back to bed. I slept for another FOUR HOURS. When I got up all I could do was shuffle about, barely enough energy to get dressed, no appetite, forced down a sandwich. Baby unusually difficult to put to bed so ended up laying down with him and basically stayed in bed from 7:30pm.

Much the same this morning - dizzy, headache, neck a bit stiff, bit disoriented, can't be bothered to speak and my tummy hurts. I had the baby by emcs just over a year ago, excellent and quick recovery don't think it can be related?

Also felt in the last couple of weeks that I've piled on weight, I stopped eating chocolate, cake, etc but doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I had a look at nhs direct symptom checker but I have symptoms from three different areas and there's no apparent way to put them all together.

I don't want to go to the doctor or call NHS direct, too much actual effort. Any similar experiences? I don't think flu or anything, temperature is low if anything.

I think you need to get proper medical advice

Go to dr. Might be nothing but your symptoms seem pretty severe.

Dammit. Was hoping you would say something along the lines of, rest up, see how you are next week. I'll see how I go over the weekend then go to the Doc's next week when I can get an appointment. Or, if I feell worse, OOH over the weekend.

Don't wait!

The "weight" is probably fluid retention. You are probably actually losing weight. Are your ankles or legs swollen at all?

Fluid retention can come from kidney and heart disease and seem to agree with your other symptoms. I would go to A&E with the symptoms you describe, and take a suitcase, in case they keep you in.

Definitely go to the GP. Unexplained weight gain and fatigue can be signs of an underactive thyroid but GPs can be a bit slow of the mark diagnosing it so always best to mention it yourself. It can be easily diagnosed with a blood test.

I've gone to gp with these symptoms today! I feel rough, sluggish, no sex drive, weight gain, on edge permenantly. Blood tests Monday for thyroid and diabetes

Hi all, thanks for your help and suggestions. I sat tight and I really think it was just flu. I've felt better each day and made it into work today. I've never had flu before so I didn't know you could have the bone ache/tiredness without any cold/cough type symptoms. As I've felt better my tummy has stopped being sore too and it's fine today. Apart from the feeling fat thing, everything came on suddenly - full of energy Tuesday, bit tired Wednesday afternoon - BOOOM can't move Thursday.

Chundle - hope it all turns out ok for you today!
