Hysterectomy and HRT

If you get your ovaries out do you have to take HRT?

Somewhere lurking in my mind, I remember someone saying to me that you have to take it for at least 6 months for your bones.

Does that sound right?

I'm 43 if that makes any difference.

Yes, until you are 50 years old.

Yes, they can take the ovaries and leave the rest but as its the ovaries that are in charge of the hormones the docs would probably want you to take HRT.

I believe there are lots of options (I hope there are lots of options) so perhaps discuss it with your doctor?

I understood that they like the hormones to 'hang about' whether your own hormones or HRT hormones for a good while if possible to prevent osteoarthritis.

I am looking at having my ovaries removed and I am 35. I am however awful with hormones so I am a bit stuck.

Do you not want HRT?

Thanks for your replies.

I don't know about HRT look, I've always thought I wouldn't take it but that would have been going through the menopause naturally.

I would like to have 'normal' hormones for a change!
