can teething cause vomiting in your experience?

ds vomited on friday. once. we put it down to a lemon curd tart that he'd made at nursery (he doesn't get on with egg v well). all weekend nothing at all, eating as normal.

today 5.30pm vomit. dinner. 8.45 vomit.

we're assuming a bug/food poisoning but he is also teething like a demon (he is 2 and has all four back molars coming through, he is constantly rubbing them with his fingers and just has more saliva than can be believed}. He also has a stuffed up nose with lots of snot (no cough). He has v red cheeks and a red ear periodically over the last few days.

i know that teething can affect poo, but can vomiting be about teething too?

also, i asked about what you do when they vom on here before and had great advice from grumpy zebra (i think nothing for 3 hours then sips of water then if that is kept down something v bland tiny bit then if that is kept down for half an hour build up, but back to square one if any vomiting). but any advice very much appreciated...

tia

But saliva isn't acidic it actually neutralises the acid produced by the bacteria in your mouth.

Flossam · 31/01/2006 11:36

But I thought it did become more so when teething to kill the bacteria to prevent infections when the gums are being cut?

Maybe you might see what I am trying to say after aLL THOSE posts sorry

I've never heard that tbh, and I would have thought that isn't the case as acid actually demineralises the enamel (thatis actually how decay occurs) so it would be harmful to the erupting teeth.

I think it is OK as long as he is not too miserable/in obvious discomfort. Would not worry too much about a slight fever in a 2yo. I assume he has not had previous convulsions?

flossam - I think my kids were both early teethers TBH - DS's first came through at 4 months exactly and DD's at 4.5 months. And DD (20 mnths) is getting the same teeth as sophable's 2yo.

You should know CM! I'll beleive you seeing as you are a dentist.

ok....NO PUKE SINCE YESTERDAY 8.45pm

fingers massively crossed....

ds has had in total today 2 bananas, 2 organix gingerbread men, and about 6 teaspoons of boiled rice and is now having an oatcake.

what can i give him for supper that will fill him up (he is shaky with hunger) but not be a risky bet???
