Anxiety... Advice/Help please

Right.. well I have always been a worrier ( a serious worrier) but since having my DD 13mo, I am constantly tired/exhausted (even though she is sleeping!!), palpatations, tight chest, headaches, worrying over really silly things (even for me) and just really feeling "not me" if you know what I mean and feeling very low.

My aunt suffers from anxiety and said this is what she thinks it is, i have got a gp app on Friday as cannot go on like this for much more.

Does anyone suffer from anxiety, do you think this is what it could be? and what helped you really?

I've experienced something similar over the years, three times bad enough to need medication and counselling. The medication helped to get on top of the acute anxiety/panic attacks, the counselling taught me how to deal with the underlying issues.
I think going to your GP is a good idea. It's important to rule out underlying medical conditions that could cause these symptoms. If you're offered medication, do consider it...but I'd push for counselling to see what's at the root of it.
The good news is, despite a couple of crisis' recently, I'm now able to handle things without medication :) . You'll get there. Recognising it is a problem the first step.

Hi, sorry you are feeling like this. It is a drain. If you go to see your GP ask her/him for a thyroid function test since the symptoms you describe (worrying, anxiety, palpitations, tight chest/shortness of breath) can sometimes be caused by an over or under active thyroid.

sometimes anxiety is related to PND.you may well be asked to fill out a wellbeing form
with help these things are managable but it is really, really hard and ddraining sometimes

WazzaWoo · 07/03/2012 17:15

Thank you all, Livein, do you think its possible to have PND even though my DD is 13mo?

Good advice from Scott though. Don't let the doc go straight down the MH road, whether it's PND, anxiety or depression.

Ask him to check your thyroid as well, just to be on the safe side. There might just be a physical cause for all this.

OP - i am not saying that it is the same but certainly reads the same as what i experienced (mild PND). i remember when dd was about 5 months give or take that i constantly felt anxious, even when i wasn't, it was awful. i literally couldn't relax, i felt like i was losing my mind. to cut to the chase, i saw gp, she gave me anti' d's (something i was never keen on taking) BUT after a month or so i felt 'normal' again, i was on them for a year and gradually (as you do) came off them in the spring (best time to come off them) and felt fine after. go to gp to get check up but if your bloods etc are all clear then may well be similar to me. don't worry, you will feel fine again :)
