weak/sensitive bladder in 5yo - advice please!

DD is 5 1/2, and has always had minor bladder issues. She potty trained at 2 without any problem, but her visits to the loo have always been frequent. She is nowhere near coming out of night nappies, despite the fact she hates them - last night she got through 3 and wet the bed as well.

Her teachers periodically comment on how often she goes to the loo - we have tried to limit her access/distract her etc but it is distressing for her. We have tried to get her to drink more during the day but she compains that they dont get many water breaks at school (I have asked again today that she has breater access to her water bottle, but as a teacher, I know this could be a pain!). Her last drink is usually around 6 - she goes to bed at 7.15.

whenever we take her to the GP, her urine tests are always clear and they dont really offer any advice.

Can anyone offer any advice/suggestions please?

Google "overactive bladder" or "irritable bladder".

The doc said ds2 might have this - basically they get the urge to wee when their bladder isn't actually full. They wanted me to keep a diary of what he drank (in mls) and when he weed (they wanted me to measure that too!) for a week. But then they said they wouldn't do anything till ds2 was 5, and as he was only just 3 at the time it didn't seem worth the effort of keeping the diary.

What actually worked was cutting out orange juice. If you google "bladder irritants" you'll find lists of foods that might be causing her problems.

Although, 10% of children aren't night-trained at 5. Something like that. Nothing wrong with them, just not ready.

My ds used to find oj irritated her too and would make her wet herself ...once I cut it out things improved ;)

thanks, I think overactive bladder may be right. She doesnt drink fruit juice, just milk and water, but I will look at the list of other things as it woudl be great if something helps.

I know lots are still in nappies at night but I cant help wondering if she could go longer in the day, she would go longer at night. she hates them being wet, so tries to change them afetr she has weed in them, getting thorugh more than one a night, it's costing a fortune as she's in PJ pants.
