Vitamin D

I am lacking in it apparently and have been given a prescription for dekristol, can anyone tell me anything about it? do I have to cash in this prescription or can I buy it over the counter for cheaper or an alternative?.

and why am I lacking anyway when I take a daily multi vitamin supplement that has 100% RDA of Vitamin D in it and eat eggs and lots of fish?.

Can being lacking in Vit D, cause a feeling of pressure just below the right rib cage and on and off pain in the right side of chest/boob? which is what I went to the GPs complaining about in the first place and have been complaining about on and off for about 2 years now.

I am coeliac and went to my GP with depression and a constant ache in my ribs. Got a chest x-ray, which showed nothing, and anti depressants. Now my routine coeliac blood test shows I am very low in vitamin D. I find it frustrating that GPs don't use a database to check symptoms as, now I am looking into it, symptoms of vit D deficiency include aches and pains and depression - and coeliacs are at risk of it. Coeliac disease can cause low levels of calcium and vitamins so it is worth getting a blood test for this if you have these symptoms

I've just seen your post. Ryoko, you should return to the Pharmacy and ask them for information - in English. It is their duty, and they can source it for you though it requires a small amount of effort.

Not read whole thread but was surprised by this
Al-Alas, his mother, was vitamin D-deficient. So is an extraordinary 25% of the UK population, according to nutritionist Dr Carrie Ruxton. She classifies deficiency as "the level below which we can't sustain normal bone health" ? and the reason for this mass deficiency is that from around October to March or April, even when we see the sun over the UK, we are not getting the right sort of UV rays. They are not of the wavelength necessary to make vitamin D in contact with our skin (which will anyway be mostly covered against the cold).

this is in English

You should also read this information regarding Dekristol
uk.mediguard.org/alerts/alert/1821.html

some knowledge as my mother was prescribed Dekristol for severe Vit D deficiency. It is German and imported here and is a special order item which is why pharmacists don't routinely stock it
